Most recently when they opened the O2 arena and they are AWESOME, they are getting better with age. They always play for at least 2 1/2 hours and they are the best live band i've ever seen.
Honestly, I have been a fan since I was 13. However, the past 5 years, any footage of concerts I have seen, Jon sings in a lower key and very nasal (this is known as cheating). I have been to see them in Southampton during the have a nice day tour, we could not hear him for the first half hour (might have been sound problems in all fairness) and his voice got so bad, he had to let Richie take over for a couple of songs. He also let the audience sing most of Living on a Prayer.
Have you listened to their latest albums? Mr MFG-to-be keeps on buying them and I only listened to them once each. Jon cannot sing or even belt like he used to, even in studio. I always thought that technically speaking, Richie has always been a better singer (if you haven't done already, check out his solo work)."Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

LOVE Richies solo work, have a live cd of his and he rocks it!!(Plus his 2 solo albums). Actually think they sound better together?!
It was maybe sound problems at the last gig, i saw the rolling stones a while back and they had a similar problem for the first couple of songs.
Plus everyone is allowed an off day!!The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Hapless that is completely different
He is at Birmingham tonight that will be interesting to see if he finishes that concert
There has just been so many lies as to the reasons behind this0 -

Does an off-day cover every studio albums made after These Days? All I am trying to say is, he is not belting it like he used to, yes he can still entertain a crowd and this is what saves him. By comparison, Roger Daltrey of The Who, is 63 and is still as good as he was in his thirsties, even on an off day (his voice was a bit down when they appeared at Glastonbury, but he knew how to "handle" it).
I do agree with your comment about the Stones: sometimes venues for such big concerts are not appropriate. Stadiums do not have the acoustics and sound mixing can go wrong."Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

Its maybe just a great advert for not smoking, the timing co-incides with Jon starting smoking!! Coincidence???The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

Well, if you are a professional singer, the golden rule is to not smoke! Another reason for not starting! Hey hey!
Then drink water, avoid fizzy, avoid citrus fruit juice, dairy and chocolate 6 hours before a concert, and have eaten at least 1 hour before going on stage."Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

Do you realise we had the same argument about 2 months ago on the thread regarding drug addicted entertainers?

I have worked in the music business and believe me if you are feeling ill and there is a gig to do, you do it, even if you are likely to collapse. I have seen it. I'm not talking local small bands either, I'm talking big name bands (then and some still around now). I have seen artists give a mediocre perfomance on stage because if they don't perfom they get sued. I've seen them do a 1 hr gig and come off stage, collapse and get rushed to A & E with the manager standing over the Dr asking if they will be fit for tomorrow.
No the entertainment industry isn't like working in an office, for the artist it's damned hard work especially when under pressure. flying here, doing a gig, next day somewhere else, another gig, then there are personal apperances, recordings etc. Some artists are lucky if they get 1 day total off in six months.
Artisits do not make any money from touring. Most of it is swallowed by expenses.
The last Kiss tour in the US was sold out withing a day, yet they lost $150,000. That was after ticket sales.
A lot of fans do not care about the artists health, hel, Paul Stanley had a heart attack on stage, at least his fans didn't bad mouth him!The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10
