It really depends how much you are going to buy. If you were buying only a small amount it wont really make much difference. For example if the rate was 2 for 1 and you bought £100 worth you would get $200 if the rate was 2.10 for 1 you would get $210. I reckon thats all you need for a short break. For the rest you can use a credit card which doesn't charge fees for making purchases abroad.0

Stash 'em for my holiday is what I meant by that. I am going in January so for me its worth buying them now rather than wait nearer the time. Its personal choice about when you feel is the right price to buy. Once its at 2 dollars for me its worth securing them at that price rather than waiting out for an extra 0.01 or more.Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000 -
We have been travelling backwards and forwards to America for over 20 years now and currently this is the best rate we have seen. I took the plunge a few weeks back and picked up some dollars at $1.97 -> £1 ... yes I could have held back and got a better rate but you pays your money and you takes your chance ... the rate could just as easily have gone down.
Since you need them in a few months the amount of interest you could earn is likely to be smallish therefore why not hedge your bets and consider buying half now and thn see hat happens early in the new year.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
because the exchange rate is so good in the usa. is there a way of booking a hotel in orlando cheaper by using an american site. any ideas0
-
Not sure I follow your logic - other things being equal the cost should be the same (well I know they are not always equal but .....)
Try booking direct with the hotel - that way you will be charged in $$ and depending on the hotel/offer might not have to pay until you check out.0 -
Book direclty with the hotels, yes you can pay in dollars, and also if you are an AA member ask if they have an AAA discount.0

Whats the point of visiting this site Party_Animal?
You got just over 2 at Thomson and you are happy ?
At TEG you would have got 2.06.
Travelex will give you 2.03 and if you buy, then price match TEG so why be happy ? youve been ripped !
Youve got 3 months to get it right and you have jumped in head first.
Travelex would have gave you a refund up to 24 hrs b4 collection. You could have bought at 2.03, claimed 2.06 and sat on it. Better still you could have 2.12 off crowncurrency for paying right now and locking in.0 -
With most of the larger hotel chains you can guarantee the booking with your UK credit card but pay in dollars when you are there - the rooms are often slightly more expensive than 'internet only - full payment required on booking' deals but with the dollar being worth more every day (at the moment it seems) - this would be the way to do it.
Just call and check with the hotel (usually freephone number) that they will not automatically take payment from your credit card.0
