Well done for staying on plan in difficult circumstances. Has your DH been able to do anything more to bring in the pennies? Is pizza delivery or anything similar an option while he's looking?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

He's on the books with 3 agencies now so it's hit and miss if he gets hours with them. He's applied for all sorts and is getting interviews, but sadly no job offer yet.3 -
So sorry to hear about your husbands job WK.
You sound so focused, you should be proud of yourself

Are there any higher paying jobs you could go for? I once applied for a role that I was under-qualified for - and got it with an £8K payrise! It can be done.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I love my job. I've only been there 4 years and jumped 4 pay scales (about £7k) when I moved to this post. I've spent most of the last 4 years feeling like a bit of a fraud and worried I'll get found out that I don't really know what I'm doing. But these last few months I've finally 'got it' and been given my own project to work on. I do only work part time (30 hours a week) but have taken advantage of DH being home to work some overtime while my project is ongoing, so that's giving us a bit of a boost.
I do keep checking the jobs board out of curiosity but so many posts are fixed term contracts, it would be a risk to leave a permanent post.5 -
We all go through that feeling of being an imposter at some point. If you are ever brave enough to discuss it with others you often find that they feel it too. Glad that you are now feeling more confident though.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I hope everyone is keeping safe and well.
We've been isolating as DC3 has had a cough and a temperature. I'm pretty sure it's just a cold, but I'd hate for anyone else to become ill as a result of us not following guidelines. Luckily I'm able to work from home (and we're now being encouraged to do so) so I'll still get full pay.
DH has sometimes pulled faces at my yellow sticker shopping and store cupboards, but it's all been worthwhile these last few weeks as we've been able to eat from stores while others have been fighting over the last bag of pasta. I did have to do a small shop today and couldn't believe how bare the shelves were. Mr T had completely sold out of milk, pasta, soap, nappies and baby wipes. Apparently a local couple have decided to buy up as many nappies as they can and set up a delivery service, selling them at 4 times the price. It makes me so cross that people are using this as an opportunity to take advantage of others. Luckily, we've got a good supply of nappies, and my mum went on holiday last week & instead of bringing chocolates back for us, brought a jumbo pack of loo roll
In other news, DH was offered a job last week, but had to turn it down as they wanted him to do 2 weeks unpaid training (a return journey of 90 miles a day) and pay for a certificate (£150) before he could start paid work. He had a call from another company asking if he can start work this week, but then hasn't heard back since. We're not sure if it's because of the Coronavirus situation that he's not heard back, or something else.4 -
Hope something sorts for DH soon. Glad you have loo roll. DS is at uni and hasn't been able to buy any and is fast running out bless him.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

We're still in isolation. DC3 has been coughing for 10 days now and the longer it goes on the more I think it could be the dreaded C virus. We had a nightmare a few nights ago when he woke upset with a temperature. DC2 is in charge of putting out the rubbish/recycling. He'd shouted me earlier that day to ask if the bottle of c@lpol on the side was empty and I told him it was. Only when DC3 desperately needed it did we realise the wrong bottle had been thrown out (and the bins had been emptied) so I had to do an emergency non-contact collection from my mum. DH and I are both coughing now too and getting horrible chest pains, although they seem to come in waves. DC1 & 2 are ok at the moment. My Mum has been amazing and has dropped off essentials (and donuts
) in our porch when we've needed them.
I'm still working from home, although I find it a lot less productive and am missing the office environment. I'm an essential worker though so need to do as much as I can from home then hopefully be well enough to get back to the office for at least a day or two next week.2 -
So sorry to hear you are all unwell - sounds like a scary time has been made easier with some help from your mum - but even so - I feel for you. Do you find working helps distract you from the illness? If not I'd give it a miss. I want the antibody test so we know if we've already had it - I bet you want some kind of test too. At least then we would all know - and if we've had it our anxiety level could go down - as for most it is supposedly mild... One of my friends has it at the moment (untested) and feels she has been run over by a truck.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
