  • I love them too, especially the liqueur and chutney, so any leftovers certainly won't be wasted.

I'd like to plant daffodils, tulips and snowdrops. I really want to make the most of the space in our garden.

Bee and Q often have good deals on bulbs and t*sco does at the moment. Snow drops best bought "in the green" so if you can wait a bit longer for them buy them from the bargain bench at garden centres next year - pots of snowdrops that have already flowered and being sold off cheap.

  • Jparkers are often good for bulbs and some varieties of plants. It's a mail/ internet order company. Consider planting in a bulb lasagne for making the most of space. E.g. Tulips at the bottom, daffodils in next layer and crocuses/ dwarf irises at the top.

  • Thank you both for the tips. I've been lurking on another diary which has given me some inspiration and lasagne layering is exactly the sort of thing I'm planning.

Hi, Welshkitty. Could you post the recipe for the Blackberry liqueur please? It sounds lovely. We seem to be drowning in blackberries here. DH goes out most days and comes back with boxes full. I cannot stand much more jam, pie and crumble. Thanks.

Pound shops often have bulbs quite cheaply, but I would keep the packaging until they flower, I've returned fruit bushes before as they have not grown.

Where in Wales are you? We are south-west, Mumtoomany.

  • I've not made liqueur for a few years but I think this is what I followed last time and it was lovely:

We're on the north coast. Feel free to send spare pies or crumble up this way! ;)
  • Ooh I'm on the North coast too, great idea about the bulbs - need some colour in the Spring!

  • Hi WK,

Just read through your diary and you are doing great! With every journey there are highs and lows but look at the debt amount you'd have if you hadn't started paying it off last year. Not long until you are under 20k!

  • Thank you for the lovely comments. I've not had chance to respond as I've been utterly exhausted. I'm working reduced hours for a few weeks due to childcare (my mum's on holiday) but that just means my usual work load needs doing in 2 days instead of 4. Plus, I've been given a new role since somebody else has gone off sick. I'm actually enjoying the challenge and pleasantly surprised that they picked me to take on the extra work - but I'm exhausted by the time I get home.

Budgets are on track at the moment but I think the grocery budget might be tight this month and I'm thinking of adding an extra £50 to it. We used up a lot of store cupboard items when we thought DH was losing his job and I feel uncomfortable that they haven't been replaced. I don't usually have a huge stockpile (we wouldn't have the space) but I like to have a few extra boxes of tea bags and some tinned food "just in case".
