Our Letters delivered to a Neighbour..

Options
Hi one and all,
To say i'm fuming about this is an understatement.
For the second time in maybe a year we have had letters which are in my name and also my wife's name delivered to a neighbours address but i don't know which neighbours address.
On the first occasion the letter was a bank statement which had my name clearly written on it and with my address and postcode on it.The neighbour had opened the letter and then at some point after(3 days)posted it through our letter box when we weren't at home.Complained to the Royal Mail and basically they apologised and stated that it wouldn't happen again so we left it there.
On this second occasion which is more serious the neighbour opened a letter from the NHS to my wife which was clearly marked as Private and Confidential and clearly addressed with our house number and my wife's name and postcode.
Now the person that has opened this letter has just ripped it open at one end making parts of the letter unreadable, which has caused a lot of distress to my wife as the letter is in regard to a personal Health issue she is going through which i won't mention here.As you can well imagine this is very upsetting for her and myself as said earlier i am fuming that someone with scant regard could do this.

Can someone advise me as to what redress i have here with the Royal Mail and is this act illegal.
I would be eternally grateful of any help and clarification please. anyone.

Not everyone checks the details on letters before opening, especially if they have been put through their door. It's only when the content is read the penny drops that it isnt theirs.

Our Posties are human and mistakes happen.

Have you never accidentally opened a letter not addressed to you ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Of course it's not illegal, it's a simple error. Many people simply open their mail without looking at it, it's unlikely they're deliberately opening your mail.

Who did you talk to at Royal Mail? Go and talk to someone at the delivery office.

    megabucks compo?

mistakes happen, postie made the first and then neighbour probably opened it without looking at who it was addressed to

They may send a small book of stamps if you formally complain.

    There's been no crime committed.

You can't, as there is always a margin of human error.

Everyone gets mis delivered mail from time to time.
