I am not sure what to conclude from that. Clearly, there was a leak that was ‘fixed’ but your gas consumption indicates that there was still a leak. It is always possible that work on one part of a pipe can weaken a pipe/joint up/down stream of the problem area.

I hope I’ve understood the thread properly!,…, a leak was repaired last year,… but the system has again been leaking badly just recently;…it’s a bit odd.

Two separate leaks on the same system occurring independently over a short period of time is unusual.

Perhaps the original single leak was detected but wasn’t repaired properly and wasn’t retested after the ‘failed’ repair;…was the plumber just so confident in his abilities that he didn’t think a pressure re-test was necessary?

Or,… there was actually 2 separate leaks on the system (with a single cause) , one of which was repaired successfully but the 2nd leak went undetected due to a lack of re-testing.

I used to have a ‘manometer’ (until I trod on it years ago!) and pressure testing domestic gas pipework is a very simple process;…even a miniscule leak is detectable within seconds.

However, pin-pointing the exact location of a leak is not always simple!

Gas safety check was done in March 4months ago. A leak was found and fixed not sure what the guy did with regards to retesting. The leak that was fixed again was on the same branch as the first one but closer to the meter. So possibly the first repair showed up the weakness in the second position as suggested by Hengus

I guess there’s several possibilities but the main thing is that your gas pipework now leak-free and more importantly, SAFE!:j

Just curious,.. but what was the nature of the leaks ,….pipe fracture?,…leaky soldered joints or compression fittings?,….and the method of the repairs ?
