Ignoring the super-duper heating controls etc. Do you actually read the meter yourself, check your bills regularly and make sure that they are corrected if wrong and send in your own readings. Ideally once a month

If you dont have a reasonably accurate record of your previous consumption then you dont really know whether your magic controls are reducing or increasing your consumption. Likewise you wont know whether the meter has gone wrong or been misread.

Just thinking that you aren't using all the much isn't quite the same as having records and being able to monitor and pin-point what's going on and when.

I do read my meter on a semi regular basis but not enough to notice a significant drop from before and after.

here is a video that shows my meter with everything turned off. Boiler is off at switch and hob rings are all off, fire is off.

I have measured the rate after I isolated everything at the appliances. Rate is 0.006m3 per minute. Calculated out that is 35000 kWh a year. Which means if this is constant my usage should be 9000 kWh a year not 44000 kWh a year.

There is no smell of gas no headaches no dead bodies. Where the f is my gas going?!

Meter stops completely when meter isolator is turned off.

    Gosh!

Start a process of elimination. Buy an induction hob, they're very good!

Sorry, my only other suggestion was a very fierce pilot light and I didn't think you'd like that!

I'm stumped, to be honest, but in the meantime turn off at the isolator overnight?

If the meter is advancing with every gas appliance turned off then you have a leak somewhere.

My neighbour had this, turned out there was a faulty seal where the house pipe was connected to the meter, cost of new seal was 25p and the cost of getting an engineer to fit it was £60+vat, so he tells me.

Think you need to get someone in to check you pipework.

Yeah I thought of a leak too and someone will be called tomorrow. The only thing I worry is that if the calculations are right we are leaking more than we use. If this were the case I'm almost certain you would smell it. And possibly people would be acting like the The Simpsons episode Maudland.

My brother had a leak under the concrete floor of his kitchen from a corroded gas pipe - never smelt anything and only found it when the kitchen was being renewed - can't remember exactly how much he reckoned it had cost him ,but certainly ££s:eek:

From my calculations if the leak is constant we have overpaid to the tune of £970 a year.

Unless it is a meter fault then, technically, you haven't overpaid. All gas consumed/lost on the consumer side of a meter is billable. If you are seriously worried that there may be a gas leak, then this needs to be checked with something other than a human nose.
