This instructional sheet sums it up for me.

  • I bought a can of Raid from Tesco's to do the nest in my coal shed. Worked fine, except that I ignored the instructions to do it at night whilst they're all at home, so the survivors built a new nest a few feet away in the neighbours hedge. The second time I did it at night, problem solved.

I had some of these delightful pets setup a home inside the wood of my porch. Having searched in Wilko and various DIY shops for powder with no luck, I ordered
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wasp-Nest-Killer-Powder-Rentokil/dp/B002QY5VNE/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_86_lp_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=0EJFVNX52D3QQ9V5KW84

Applied it at night so I could spray it right inside the small hole in the frame and after 24 hours I am no longer a wasp keeper.

Only some gloves. I waited until it got dark and all activity had stopped.

Just found out the the mother in law blocked the wasps in the nest, that's why they broke through the bedroom ceiling. They were more than a bit angry.

The really sad thing is that I think the pest controller took out a bat as well when he killed the wasps. There was one dead by the bottom of the house under the bedroom windows. _pale_

You worried me Doozergirl! We've got a nest in our brand new roof right above my son's (loft) room. Heard loads of scratching above and on looking outside saw them going in and out. Could have left it but fear of them breaking through into his room spurred me on so I had a man in today to sort it out. Most annoyed as the blooming roof was only built 2 months ago and they were chomping away at the wood already!!

Father in law thought the noise was mother in law snoring :rotfl:

I thought I’d got bees but after reading this thread and hearing increase load scratching I realise it’s wasps. I’ve got the council coming round next week for 58 quid. I can’t stop looking at the ceiling for signs of them breaking through!

    I'm no expert but...

It's very unlikely they will break through the ceiling unless their normal ingress/egress is blocked. Also they will tend to collect wood for their nest rather than insulation/plasterboard.

I watched "mine" and because they are nest building at the moment they weren't causing any problems even when we were eating outside. It seemed a very ordered society and I do feel guilty for having had to wipe them out.
