A holesaw won't enlarge an existing hole either, for the same reason: you need material in the middle to locate and centre the tool. Provided your workpiece is not too thick you may be able to clamp a piece of scrap at the back to locate the pilot though.

Could be large enough, just need to know if the whole slaw for metal will or not cut through solid Oakwood.
@jack_pott if I cut cut through a hole large enough with holeslaw then i wont need to make an existing whole larger-to avoid any confusion.
