If you do use a flat bit as advised above (and I would concur) drill part way through from one side and, as soon as the drill has started taking wood at the finished diameter and you can see the point of the drill break through, finish the drilling from the other side.

Or hold a scrap piece of wood on the opposite side you drill from.

Thanks for the advice mser's appreciated
If I use a flat bit what happens if I have to make the hole bigger to allow mentioned cables through -do I continue to drill holes on top of holes etc.

That drill bit set is not much use for what you want, you really need a hole cutter which comes in the more expensive deal set or a decent sized (25 mm or so) flat wood bit.

Thanks lets hope I can search and find 25 mm standard drill bit to fit value inexpensive drill from Argos.
I'll continue search from weekend as plenty of time ahead of 9th July delivery and following weekend setup of tech kit.

The recommendations for placing a router normally say keep it in the open for best performance so unless you have tried it already in closed cupboard it may affect performance behind the glass door.

Decided I'm going to make use of the 8mm wood drill bit as part of bits set.
Maybe a few 8 mm's required though at least the drilled holes shouldn't be in view as router and apple t.v. Will cover them.
This all depends on renough room for router being the larger of the two devices taking place.
If not I have some Edinburgh crystal -then router and apple t.v.could take place on top of cabinet which i don't want if possible.

Yeah I appreciate router should be in open space with air if possible.
I'm quietly confident the display cabinet shouldn't cause any probs.

No, flat bits & augers require material at the centre of the hole to locate the point, so you have to drill final size first time. If you want to open out a hole, either use a coping saw or plug the hole and re-drill with a piece of scrap clamped at the back.
