How long could you go without buying clothes

If the truth be known I'm a bit of a clothes hoarder and can't resist a good charity shop bargain. Therefore I have too many clothes really and I'm planning on just not buying anything until it's a need rather than a want. I don't wish to put a time limit on it but just to challenge myself to go as long as I can. I think most people could probably go a fair few years running down what they already have . Hopefully I will save some money too

Indefinitely I think, with the exception of replacing bras and socks. Unless I needed something for a special occasion, that might be a challenge.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0

Haven't bought any new clothes ( apart from underwear) for 3 years.

Several years, and quite easily.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I buy the odd charity shop item here and there when I spot one, but I don't ever go out "clothes buying" except in exceptional circumstances.
This year I've spent about £8 - a couple of nice tops at car boots and a brand new bra from Matalan.
I'd spend (a little) more if I could find clothes in my size, but "petite" is rarely to be found in charity shops and at car boots .... and even rarer in "cheap shops" I might wander through (e.g. Matalan don't have any, Sainsburys/Tu don't have any ... not spotted any in Asda yet).... so I never bother "looking" much really.
I could do with more clothes rather than fewer - as nothing I've got really fits, suits, or goes with anything elseMy size has changed over the years, becoming smaller and smaller ... and now even my size 10 shorts need a belt just to hold them up. But I still keep bigger clothes in case one day I am more biffer-like.

I haven't bought anything for about 4 months, and usually I only buy clothes about once a year, and usually from Primark. Where £50 goes a loooong way!!
I only needed these few bits as when I checked my summer ware, a couple of my old swimmers had lost their elasticity (and some were M&S too!!! - not impressed)
I try to operate a strict "one in, one out" policy...so they are mainly replacement items where the original goes in the charity bag (or bin) depending on their salvageability."I can see you, your brown skin shining in the sun, you've got the top pulled down and the radio on" :cool:0 -

Oh wow 3 years is impressive. I definitely could go some time before replacing jeans, tops etc. Shoes maybe not so much as I do so much walking. I'm going to experiment and see just how long I can go0

I have only recently discovered that there can be pleasure in buying clothes!
A few short years ago I was squeezing myself into size 30/32 and 5XL (the largest sizes I could find)...I had the laughable idea that dark colours would help hide my size so I wore black and navy blue with deep red/purple for 'dressy' clothes...and I couldn't get a bra to fit.
Over the last couple of years I have managed to lose a significant amount of weight...I can now buy clothes on the High Street!...this has meant gradually buying a few more clothes.....I thought buying a pair of pastel jeans was the BEST feeling...I have since decided that replacing a pair because they too are too large now is even better!
As a result my wardrobe (well, a rail in the bedroom and a chest of drawers) is well stocked with reasonably new stuff - and SHOULD last me for a good few years...although I still have a couple of stone to go until I reach what I have in mind as my 'goal weight', so I may need to downsize again.
The local charity shop used to be delighted when I pushed my wheeled walker through the door, as it usually meant another couple of bags of good quality outsize clothes for them!0 -
How long? Possibly the rest of my life. I might have to buy a few pairs of pants, (knickers), gave up wearing bra's ten years ago. I might buy a pair of sporty trousers from a sports shop, my favourite ones cost 2 pairs for £15, other than that maybe an odd top from a charity shop, Age UK £1.
I don't go in regular clothes shops, will not pay their ridiculous prices, would rather get decent quality second hand.

I generally shop for clothes twice a year mainly to replace items that are worn out as I hated clothes shopping (and still do to an extent) and kept it very minimalist. However, this year I've needed to buy more often, mostly from charity shops, as I replaced everything due to losing a lot of weight. I now plan not to get anything else until Autumn.
Well done Prinzessilein.0
