Just like any other supplier but just one simple rate for electric none of this X for so many kw then X for the rest. It's just a little less than 14p/kw and that's it. They may not supply to a reseller such as your landlord. You and the landlord need to ask them the question.

He probably wouldn't be interested as he gets his gas/electric from the same guys and I know the gas bill is astronomically high!

  • Online you can get around 10p per unit, but if the LL is on standard tariff (likely if he has many properties he won't shop around for best deal as he just bills the tenant for it) it could be right. Definately get some advice, CAB is a good place to start.

I believe others are right there is only a certain markup allowed and it stands to reason you have a right to see what the LL is paying. Otherwise there's nothing to stop them being on an online tariff and billing you for standard.

Finally I assume the landlord wouldn't want to lose a rent paying tenant, so if the figures do stack up perhaps some compromise is in order. If on standard there are significant savings available online, perhaps the landlord would agree to this rather than the hassle and potential expense of finding a new tenant?

I don't know if its worth making a quick post on the buying renting and selling board? Someone on there may know the rules and regs.

  • ANyone any idea of where we can report landlord to for selling electricity at more than he is paying he has adjusted the meter again we are paying something like 18 odd pence for each unit! Spending £4 a day on electric currently really cant afford this.

I have asked him for bills but he just ignores me the electricity board are not interested either even though its apparently illegal to resell it higher than you are paying.

According to this you are on your own and have to recover the overcharge through the courts. A visit to CAB would be your starting point then start looking for somewhere else as a S21 will probably soon be on its way.
