Oh right I'll pay for their amateur service then and take it like a good little b*£ch then.

Sounds like a great plan seeing as you are complaining like a b*£ch

I mean they should have checked before carrying out any sort of work out surely?
They started to do the work that you had asked them to do.
You can't expect to get that for free.

I'm really confused here. They've said the lower control arms needed replacing. You said "not happy, don't continue with work", why didn't you just say "proceed with the original job as I asked". Or are they saying it was impossible?". If it was impossible, then it'll be equally impossible to put them back on with the old shocks and springs. The defect has been agitated and usually there is little going back.
A more mechanically minded person may correct me but it maybe that the disassembly to do the original job reveals another broken part and the unit cannot now be re-assembled (i.e. a bolt was holding it all together). Dodgy garages might claim extra work that isn't really necessary but that's the risk you take if you don't know enough yourself.
I need to think of something new here...

The state of suspension arm bushes is not always visible till they are removed from their housings etc.

The garage identified once taken apart that they were not great and suggested fitting new ones.

I seriously cannot think of a reason why anyone would want to run a garage or sell cars. Dealing with the snowflake generation who expect compensayshun for everything would drive me made.

I'm slightly surprised that the OP assumed there would be no charge.
As a bare minimum, the garage would need to put the car on the ramps, and remove the road wheels to inspect the wishbone bushes etc, then re-fit afterwards. This takes staff time, therefore a cost.
Unless they offer a free inspection service, it is expected that they will pass this charge onto you.

Agreed. It's absolutely mad how much people feel they are owed something for nothing.
  • You dont say how much but you should expect to pay for some time even if not labour - I was quoted £160 for a "diagnostic test" (just to see if there was anything wrong) with my steering
    If I ruled the world.......
  • So the OP has dodgy wishbones first garage wanted to change them as they were already in there and they would only charge for parts as lets face it some cars you just drop the wishbone joint to give you some room to play anyways, OP cancel s the whole shebang and expect not to pay for taking the time and effort because they rechon the garage should have done a free pre MOT inspection first, Buts OK now though because they found a garage willing to fit only suspension and not deal with the wishbone issues.

The mind boggles with some people.

You watch now OP will come back saying Wishbones have gone and garage didn't do them whilst they were there doing the suspension.
