Help with unexpected charge from garage

Hi guys,

I wonder if you can help me, I put my car into a garage for new front shocks and springs but I was later called from the mechanic to say that they noticed that the lower suspension arms also needed to replaced which put the price up so I decided not to go ahead with the repair.

I then called back to arrange for pickup of the car but I was told that the garage were charging an hour's labour because they already had the car up and started stripping it?! Surely they can't do this, I mean they should have checked before carrying out any sort of work out surely? I mean, if the bushes on the arms are that broken then some MOT style testing would have shown a problem without having to take the thing apart?

Would you rather they fitted new suspension parts and told you it would need re stripped down for wishbones?

pay them, you can't expect someone to spend time on your car for free.

I'm not expecting anything for free, I just wished (no intended!) that they had noticed these things before stripping parts off.

Exactly so pay them then. An hour labour is nothing, most garages won't open a bonnet for less than £50

Even if they hadn't stripped any parts from the car there still would have been a cost for them to take the car in, put it on the ramp and check it.

What are you planning to do with the car now that it needs new front shocks, springs and suspension arms?. I hope your not planning to drive around in a sub standard car just because you don't want to pay for repairs.

I did think that but thought it might be a stupid thing to say :D

Sometimes issues don't reveal themselves until they've been 'agitated'. That is probably a weird way of putting it, but is very true.
