To be honest, my 'on it' attitude comes and goes... it'd be nice if i could be consistent with it!

Just had a call from nursery and #2 is under the weather so he's now home with me. That might put a dampner on my productivity but we'll see.

Thanks for your comments, Tea. We do work really hard but we also like to have enjoyment while trying to pay off debts. I hope you enjoyed your tea and got a bust of energy after to do your chores!

Clocked up a sneaky little NSD today - long may that continue! Hoping tomorrow will be the same too, although it'll break on Friday when I have to pay for the kids' football training - £6.

I'm enjoying keeping my money in my purse right now (figuratively speaking. In reality, i have about 8p in my purse). This is the most I've had in my account three weeks before pay day for quite a long while.

Logging off now to chill for an hour before bed. Bon nuit!

    Morning MSE land!

Another couple of small bills out this morning and the bills account is exactly where it should be for now! Well, it's actually £3 more than it says on my spreadsheet but better than the other way round :)

Spending account hasn't had much change really and is still looking healthy. Husband needed fuel this morning so i can see that registering already but other than that, i expect a spend-free day. Hooray!

Littlest is off today with a high temperature, although he seems completely fine aside from the high temp which is being treated with Calpol. He's playing pretty well himself right now with the Lego and taking pictures of it on his brother's go-pro, so i can get some work done.

Morning HG :) Hope little one is feeling better. Calpol is the stuff of miralces  :) I keep reading about the expected storm but we've had a really nice few days so I'm wondering if we're in the proverbial 'calm before it'. Time will tell. Have a lovely weekend. xx

Just awaiting the total spend on my husband's brake bill. Then i got a reminder yesterday that my car is due an MOT before the end of February...it never ends, does it?

It really is never ending, what will be my car needs new spark plugs, and the fan is making noises when it's driven for 30 mins, so that's gonna cost money, and I think the MOT on it is due this month so god help us lol xx

    Morning all!

The kids are much better thanks, Tea although I think they're still recovering a bit (i.e. still tired and grumpy :) ).

Nice to see you back Kindofagilr! Hope your car troubles don't come to much. Husband's bill was as expected (thankfully) so now just my car MOT to go at the end of the month...

Thought I'd bring back my old lists :)

    Good stuff
    • Son #1 won his first podium medal at a competition this weekend!
    • Money stuff is still balancing along nicely still this month
    • Booked a day off tomorrow to have some quality 1-2-1 time with #1 while he's off for half term

    Not so good stuff
    • Snow, wind, rain, extreme weather is taking over my plans for today...i just want to hibernate!
    • I did a quick shop yesterday without a list/ meal plan so although we have some food, it won't do us the week so need to get a list on the go and organise the week
    • Because of a hugely busy weekend, the house is a TIP so i really need to catch up and get things in order

    Days until holiday: 137

P.S. To get to the most recent comments on a thread, i'd usually click 'most recent' but that doesn't appear to be a link anymore on the new forum...anyone know if i'm missing something? It's annoying going into the first post, then scrolling to the bottom to then click on the last page...

    Happy Wednesday everyone!

How's the weather with you? It's snowy/ hailstormy here and changing minute by minute which is weird. Glad to be indoors, despite the fact I'm working.

Yesterday was productive! Managed to completely clear out #1's room and big cupboard which is a weight off. It's been needing done for a while so delighted to get it done. There's 4 bin bags to go to the dump and another 3 going to charity so need to try to get them out the house today.

Got a lot of work to do today but really busy with meetings which is irritating. Need to focus to make sure my mind is clear this evening. I've been feeling that if I don't get enough done then that evening I'm thinking about it and what else i have to do for the next day. I need to switch off.

We got the quote back for our planned renovations and the excluding VAT cost is at the top end of our budget which is disappointing. We are continuing to work on our contingency fund but what we'd hoped to save for that + furnishings will likely need to go on VAT now... Husband and I need to sit down and talk about this in detail tonight - we need to see if it's still doable and whether we should just bite the bullet and do it or try to make compromises here and there. It's a big decision and a big financial commitment so I want to make sure we make the right call.

#2 needs some new jeans (2 of 3 pairs now have holes in the knees) so i popped to Sainsbury's for their 25% off, money taken from my clothes/ gifts account.

Current account is still looking fine for the month, although our nursery fees are going up by £60 per month starting in April... Thankfully, it'll only be for April, May, June and July. We'll only be paying for 2 weeks in August then #2 starts school so it's not too painful. I did work out that since my son started in 2016, the fees have gone up by £200 per month! And to add insult to injury, the 1140 hours of funding kicks in at our nursery in August, the same month that i stop paying nursery fees... *eyeroll*

  • Sorry about the increase in nursery costs.
I have had my water bill and that has gone up quite a bit and it does seem to be a slow creep upwards on everything...
I hope you can find a way forward on renovations.

Hi HG :) Nursery fees are eye-watering aren't they, I bet you're glad they're coming to an end even if you are missing out on the hours. Does your eldest go to breakfast club and after school club and can parents claim anything back for those? It didn't used to be the case but maybe things have changed since I was in school?

Shame that the renovation costs are at the top end of your budget. I know you've said in the past that you see your house as being your forever home and if that's still the case maybe it's worth pushing yourselves for the long term benefits and happiness the work will bring you. Like you said, lots to think about and weigh up.

Weather is all over the place here as well, the only think we seem to be missing is snow much to DS's disappointment as he's been hoping for a  snow day ....... or two  :D Have a lovely day. xx

Yes, eye-watering is correct. I totalled up our pre-school care and between both of them we have spent £63k since 2013 :( That's not including breakfast clubs/ after school/ school holiday clubs etc. It's horrifying! But has enabled us to get to where we are now, and I'm certain that we did the right thing.

When #2 starts school, we will use the free breakfast club a couple of days per week and the paid for after school club three days per week. It'll still be around £200p/m for both and of course much more expensive in the holidays but having a flexible job helps on that front. It's a damn lot better than the £1500 per month we were paying a couple of years ago!

Thanks for the renovation encouragement - I just need to sit down and look at our finances properly again and see what the possibilities are. We can afford this higher amount, it's just about how we will finance it and making sure we do it the right way and we don't overcommit to the detriment of other things we want to achieve.

The sun is splitting the trees now here, after a crazy snow/hail storm. I wish it would decide! The kids are desperate to go sledging but it doesn't look like it's going to hang around.
