Morning HG :) Excellent news about the loan :T Good news about OH's wage rise as well. As you say it all helps. Your dedication to debt busting and saving while raising a young family is inspirational.

It's nice to have a holiday to look forward to isn't it and the special trip at Christmas sounds fun - fingers crossed you'll be able to do it.

Bet you're really excited to start the works on your house aren't you. It's not easy having jobs done especially when there's little ones to look after as well but it'll all be worth it in the end. xx

Thanks for your lovely message, Tea. Always appreciated :) I'm really excited to get cracking with the house, if only the builder would hurry up with the quote then we know what we're facing!

The Christmas trip is not set in stone at all, and we will only go if we think we can afford it. It is a santa-related trip so we can't push it much later or the 'magic' will perhaps not still be there for my oldest. We want to time it right before reality hits.
How lovely to have the loan paid off and to have some nice plans to look forward to in 2020
Thanks! I'm looking forward to making some progress in 2020 for sure! It's been a long while coming!

You're right Monz. It's great to close that chapter (although a new one will be opening soon enough with more 'debt' but this time it's intentional, planned and value-adding debt).

Not much to report today, although I'm £35 lighter after I couldn't handle the pain anymore and visited the chiropractor today. It's worth it, though and I'm already feeling a lot better. The pain has reduced to a dull ache rather than sharp shooting pain and being unable to bend/ move in certain ways. Turns out the last time i saw him was 6 months ago so if i have to see him for an MOT every six months, i can handle that.

  • Chiropractor is money well spent as is going more often.

I can't believe that big loan has gone. Wow, well done.

Loving the countdowns as always :)

Morning all, how are things going on this dull, rainy Wednesday morning?

This morning I had a burst of energy and motivation (no idea where it came from) so I've been pretty productive on the work front. There's a dark wash on the go, which will be finished in 55 minutes so i'm setting myself a challenge of completing one of the items on my to-do list so that when it's done i can take the 5 minutes to hang it up (then get the next load on). Challenging myself like this actually does help!

All the bills have come out this month now, so i reconciled my account against my budget spreadsheet and it's more or less bang on to where it should be. More accurate than it ever has been! So i'm delighted about that. Just trying to keep up with that so there's no room for it to go off on a tangent and lose control.

It's pay day tomorrow and it's my favourite pay day of the whole year! It's been a LONNNNNNG January :) I'm travelling by train tomorrow morning so i'll allocate funds to the different pots in the morning, and that'll be that for four weeks. I upped our spending money slightly from this month going forward because we were always running low in the last couple of weeks of the month and i'd just end up transferring savings back through which is pointless. When I looked at how much was spent on fuel, food, travel etc not an unreasonable amount) there wasn't much left over for day to day living and contingency (i.e. 2x taekwon do gradings in a weekend, plus a competition fee = £75 like i had to pay last week). So when i got my pay rise, i decided to use some of it towards a more comfortable spending account amount. I'm hoping it'll make a difference this coming month, and it should given that the days between Jan to Feb pay is only 28 days this month. I'll keep an eye, as always.

In less great news, my husband's car needs new brakes (pads, possibly discs) so it's booked in on Friday to be looked at. However, that means another financial hit and it could be anything up to £400 if the whole thing needs replaced. At least we have the funds there, but it feels like every time we feel like we're getting somewhere with saving, we need to spend it on something else. We spent £500 on my car's service and new brakes in December (great timing) so i'm a bit fed up of these things now.

Anyway, better not lose the streak of productivity that I'm on!

Just emptied my purse - i have no need to spend money today and pay day is tomorrow so i have potted £6.20 into my sealed pot and 66p in loose coins (5p and under) into the big jar of smash.

Haven't been doing much potting this month so it feels nice to feed it a little.

Morning HG :) Frustrating about hubby's car, but at least you've got the money, although I hate spending it on anything like that :o

Children's hobbies can be really expensive can't they, but it's great that they still enjoying going and nice that they have something to aim for with their gradings and competitions.

I get 'paid' on 1st and can't wait. I paid for a family treat which cost £40 which was budgeted for but then I also had to cover an unexpected bill of £25 due to my carelessness. That £65 is about 1/4 of my spends and has really made a difference to my money this month. Roll on Friday :rotfl:

    Have a great day. xx
