have you tried plugging the usb cable into another usb socket when it asks, that sometimes gets vista looking for a new driver where as if it's in the same socket you first used it does not.

Yes, I've tried the main USB's on the back of the PC, the two on the front, and also a USB hub, and get the same problem in all..

Maybe the cable is faulty, try another one.

I take it you are using VISTA drivers?

Start again, but with every option try and select administrator rights.(run as administrator)

Is the USB active in BIOS? sorry clutching at straws.

I have 2 USB cables, and tried them both.

How do I check if the USB is active in BIOS?

Do any other devices work in the USB's like pen drives?

    If so they are active.

I would of assumed they were working but you never know, they may aslo be set to USB 1 and not 2.

If not you need to enter the BIOS to check or make active, when booting and for a very short time you should see a message before windows starts and it will say "press ? to enter BIOS"
