  • Of course they are a luxury, you do not need them to stay alive.

However if done cheaply they can represent very good value, in terms of usefulness vs cost.

What's the point of asking the question then? If for you a mobile phone is a luxury then you already have your answer, whether others side with you or not it's irrelevant.
It's irrelevant what I think about migrants on boats in the Med, as I am in no position in having any say on what happens to them....but I might still comment on a thread

It's irrelevant what I think about Trump's spokeswoman being ejected from a restaurant, as I live thousands of miles away and had no say in the decision...........but I might still post on a thread about it

It's irrelevant what I think about people wearing shorts, whether William Hague thinks cannabis should be legalized etc etc etc ..but I might still post on a thread about it.

Do you see me demanding to know why the people who started those threads, started them? Something obviously interested them about the topic, which is why they started a thread.....same with me......I started a thread about something I found of interest.

BTW I don't think mobiles are a luxury, or a necessity either. It broadens one's mind when others proffer their opinion on a question posed....

i am not slagging anyone off, I am on an internet forum asking a relevant question to today's lifestyle choices. What is the problem?
Have I mentioned names anywhere? No, I have not. There is an IGNORE button you can press on me if you are offended by a question

The way this thread starts, it seems you arent talking about your own usage, but are keener to express opinion on someone else's.

I have a £25 tesco smart phone that is nearly 2 years old. I last put a tenner on it in January I think. I have £3.60 odd left on it. I don't walk into a shop and check my phone, then check it in the aisles, then check it when I am queuing, then again as I leave the shop.
I am proud to say I am not addicted to my phone and could quite happily live without it.:T

I pay £33 a month. That is for landline mobile and TV package. Including Sky channels that I don't watch. I get unlimited texts with 300 minutes and I really don't know what data usage because I piggyback on Wi-Fi. So what you pay does seem a lot to me

Just to add that includes line rental and all phone calls including calls to mobiles

It kills me to pay such high amounts for internet, but unfortunately only BT or TalkTalk to chose from here and I’ve been sickened with TalkTalk in the past. Mind bt have left me without me without a hub for the past week so no better really. Just Mum likes her BT mobile and free calls so it is what it is

When you need them to deal with benefits applications (PIP, UC and HB/CTB for a start, plus JSA and WRA group of JSA), not having one can very quickly descend into starving.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Another reason benefits should be in part given in food vouchers.

No doubt that when dealing with benefit agencies they expect you to have a mobile whether you can afford one or not.

    Same goes for internet access.

Only for those who wish to rub peoples noses in it.

Well, they can do that if they wish, but would make more sense if they ate it.
