If a BT contract ends on 14 Aug, but you get switched out on 16 Aug, do you pay (at the higher standard rate) for 2 days pro rata or for an entire month since they bill in monthly periods?
    It will be pro rata.

Yes it will be or-rota. What if bt increase the price in September and I have just accepted another offer when my contract ends on the 14th? I will need to think whether I want to stay with them or switch.

For me its not been a price rise over the last few years .
Its an opportunity to pay less year on year .

Be very careful about giving notice. ISTR that people have given notice separately from arranging a transfer, so they have ended up with a cease on their line and having to pay a reconnection fee.

Do not give notice to your current ISP directly, let the new ISP arrange everything.

Most ISP's require you to contact them to inform them you are leaving due the the price rise and not another reason. If you don't, they will probably apply an ETC.

So you DO need to contact your current provider. However, it's important you don't tell them you want to 'cancel', but that you are transferring due to the rise.
