SIM card for hospital stay?

The hospital does not have WiFi. Looking for a cost effective data SIM card which can easily be cancelled (monthly contract would be ok). Mostly for reading newspapers but the ability to watch the occasional programme would be nice. Looking for data but would consider card with calls/texts as well if it works out over cost. Suggestions welcome!

Biggest issue is that many hospitals are in poor mobile coverage areas, research carefully first or have a relative visit your ward to check reception before buying an expensive bundle of data.

The first thing to check is that the use of moiles is permitted in the ward you are staying in. It varies, depending on the equipment in use.

It's nearly always forbidden (butt covering notices on walls in case a mobile can be blamed for anything). And nearly everyone in hospital wards uses them including the staff. Having said that, I wouldn't want to place a mobile or a 4G router directly next to some medical electronic equipment. Try to keep it at least a foot away.

Asda Mobile 6GB data only for £15 lasts for 30 days. Order a free sim, put it into your phone, ring 2732 to register a debit card and top-up or top-up by voucher or the top-up card after linking it to your phone number and then text 2732 to order your bundle. The SIM comes with 10MB, 10 minutes and 10 texts. Add a Talk & Text bundle 250 mins, 2000 texts for £5.

Wacky pricing though when you can get 5GB, 1000 minutes and unlimited texts for £15 with the regular bundle and recurring top-ups by Direct Debit renewed up to August 28 get double data with the summer promotion.

*If porting your number wait until it's ported before linking the top-up card.

Totally degree defiantly make sure whatever carrier you go with works in the ward your in by checking the actual reception on a phone. Do not listen to the sales person checking coverage on a map and telling you it will be fine.

Another tip: BBC iPlayer TV programmes and box sets can be downloaded and watched offline. Maybe some apps for other channels or streaming services can do the same.

If a subscription is already in place then the same can be done with Netflix. All 4 is the same too.

It's one of the few I'd imagine, which is a shame given that it's such a simple way to improve patient experience.
