I hate the idea of using a microsoft account anyway and would highly advise using a local account instead0

I don't have a problem with it personally. I've got to sign in to a MS account at some point to get my various hotmail and outlook emails, may as well just do it the once at login.
Cant you just set the mail app up to link to those accounts ?
Or other client of your choice of course0 -
tried Start > Settings cog > Family & Other People
under Other people > Add someone else to the PC > I dont have this persons sign-in information > Add a user without a Microsoft account >
You now get a page "create an account for this PC" and you know the rest
While you are at it, make a back door too, in case your profile ever get mangled
hen try one of these ways

Rather than read all the above again to confuse myself, thought I would start again.
On start up I have to sign in, something I wish to disable.
Having googled and seen long protracted routes, which I have copied and in some cases followed through, I still have to sign in.
As I understand it, they ask if its a microsoft sign in or other. How can I tell? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you're signing into an email address, its an Microsoft account sign in. If it just says Fred or whatever, its a local account.
Easiest solution is this:Open Settings > Accounts and click Your info.
After confirming that the account is set up to use a Microsoft account, click Sign in with a local account instead.
Enter the password for your Microsoft account to confirm that you're authorized to make the change, and then click Next.
On the Switch To A Local Account page, enter your new local user name and password, along with a password hint, as shown here.
Click Next to sign out from the Microsoft account and sign back in using your new local account.0 -

SETTINGS - ACCOUNTS - SIGN IN OPTIONS - REQUIRE SIGN IN (DROP DOWN BOX), SET TO 'NEVER'.....
You only need to sign in when you first Power it up. from then on it will wake and start without sign in needed.
Sign in from power on is an extra layer of security if it's nicked.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
