I got my £18.99 per month deal re-done today on chat with Sky after all my offers had ended and I cancelled. Got on chat 10 mins later and was offered that. Fibre unlimited + line rental included. Quite happy with it.

I ended up cancelling the TV (original+movies) that I was getting for £9 a month as I don't watch it. But I might change my mind as it's on a 31 days rolling contract, ending in November anyway.
  • Hi,

I've tried to get the New BT broadband £23.99 deal and I am having issues and was wondering if you can help.

I'm currently with PlusNet and after their recent price hike I've managed to get out of the contract. However now that I am trying to sign up with BT broadband I am getting the following error:

“We can see from your details that you've already placed an order to stop your current service. In order for us to bring you to BT and keep your number, you must cancel that request with your current service provider.
Please contact your service provide and arrange for the stop request to be cancelled. Once this is done, come back and continue to place your order with BT.
If you don't wish to contact your service provide and are happy to take a new Telephone number please call us on xxxxxxxxxxx”

It doesn't give me a number but just these xxxx. Thanks for the help!

    Thanks for the update.

Out of interest, if you had been offered £15 a month for Broadband and Line rental with a £50 credit to your account OR the deal you got, which would you chioose?

Well... The £15 a month one + credit, obviously! Why would I choose the more expensive option? Or is it a typo?

Just saying that is the best deal I have seen recently.

I am terminating next week so will update.

Their option will always be to try to add value first, so they will offer you something that costs them very little like a fibre upgrade, if you turn everything down and say you can't afford it then they may come out with the deal or call you back (they always call you back if you cancel).

Bit tricky if you have signed up for this but you may have cancellation rights, might we worth ringing back, saying you have spoken with "the wife" and you simply can't afford the fibre so need to cancel after all. Remember to keep saying no until they offer you at least the deal above.

Let us know how you get on

Nah, I'm good with what I got really. :)

I'm done with ISPs and jerking around every 12 months scratching for savings. I'm now completely Mifi - no landline payments, no long-term contracts and the price/performance I get with 4G connection is as good, if more reliable than I had with Plusnet.
In addition - I can take this anywhere - including when touring abroad. Prices for Mifi are tumbling too.

I had to renegotiate with BT yesterday following a mistake that showed up in my monthly billing. Polite but firm is the way I go and it works for me every time. Got a new deal that I was happy with and never had the slightest urge to pretend faux-anger at the helpful customer service advisors who dealt with me.

    Good for you!

I note you do not state the deal you got, It would help others if you did and is the purpose of this thread.

£26.49 per month Infinity 1 unlimited with weekend calls. Suits me.

One thing about the Plusnet deal which doesn't appear to be mentioned - the upload speed is considerably lower than BT. Plusnet have recently reduced upload speeds for new customers and fibre is only 1.9MBps, compared to around 10MBps on BT Infinity 1. This may or may not affect you, depending how much uploading or file transferring you do. (ADSL upload is 440kbps, compared to around 1MBps with BT)

I don't know when the service poll was taken, but Plusnet have had a lot of issues recently. They seem to be getting on top of them but it's still nowhere near what they were 3-4 years ago. While you can talk to someone quicker than you could 6 months ago, their level of knowledge is a lot lower. I believe they moved a lot of CS staff over to the new mobile division and brought trainees in to the phone/broadband side.

I have just switched from Plusnet to BT for that very reason. I'd been with Plusnet ADSL for years but when fibre became available here last week, the best they could offer was 1.9 up. BT were offering five times that for less money.

I can't complain about customer service from both BT and Plusnet. Both answer quickly if you use web chat rather than try to phone.

I am hoping this is the right thread to ask this based upon the title, I am not sure based upon the last few pages of discussion.

What is the cheapest way to get home broadband at the moment? I am not bothered about speed. I can't handle a break in service, but I am not concerned about the quality of customer service thereafter. I do not need a home telephone line.

Origin appears to be available at £125 per year with a potential £35 back through topcashback making it £7.50 per month. However, the service appears too horrendous to risk from what I can see so I am ruling this out.

Therefore, I am looking at EE which is £276 over 18 months but with a potential £135 through topcashback, I make that £7.83 per month. I have been with EE before and found them fine so am tempted by this.

Are there any cheaper deals out there? Whilst not bad, they seem rather expensive based upon what I have had the last few years:

    2014 - Orange = £35 total or £2.91 per month.
    2015 - Sky = £5.35 total or 45p per month.
    2016 - TalkTalk = -£2.09 total or -17p per month. Yes, minus!

I was hoping to find a terrific deal again but doesn't seem to be much out there.

I love the idea of sharing with a neighbour but do not know them well enough. I heard mi-fi can be cheap but I do not really understand it conceptually let alone know where to start looking for the cheapest.
