    Thanks!

It's just that my meter was changed in March and since then I have noticed my bills increase.
My heaters are using electric all day and night. I have checked the heaters and all wiring...they are fine!..............

Your house must have been like a sauna thoughout the summer!

I can't believe that you have allowed this to go on for six months and now expect compensation.

Which one of us is stupid? Of course I didn't have my heaters on during the summer, which is why I didn't know that there was anything wrong with my electric untill recently!

Well I would have to say that you are, as you do not bother to read your meter regularly!

You can hardly blaim a customer for a faulty timeswitch. A lot of customers do not check their readings and why would you even bother until you had a quarterley bill?

She is very much entitled to compensation since the Meter Operator has caused her to consume far more electricity than she would have chosen to. So, the Supplier will try to spread consumption between peak & off peak which will overcharge her. They may try to give her all her Kwh for the heaters on off peak but thats still unfair when they have forced her to consume more power than normal because of a fault on the equipment.

They have then tried to blag a further 28 days of a near winter usage by holding back on a site visit that they know they must book within 10WD's.

So, why would you not try to get that written off? If you didn't, your Supplier would be laughing at you.

Also, the Supplier may have had a reading and ignored it. The Supplier in this case would have received a reading and a data flow from the Data Collector requesting a faulty timeswitch investigation. So, if they had a reading, the Supplier ignored it too. A Supplier could easily blag extra usage out of customers who are less than assertive with them by doing this.

    Hi Susie,

    No probs.

They have to put your account on hold for disputes. They will if Ofgem/Energywatch get involved. I think thats a further blag personally.

They certainly have to do something about the extra Kwh you have consumed due to the fault. The heater side though, that will be tricky but they should at least contribute something.

I don't think they will give you more than £20-£50 in goodwill. To get money back against that will need Ofgem/Energywatch involved or they will dismiss it in my opinion. Complaints teams don't tend to have the authority for a lot of that but someone higher will.

GSOS is a big joke. Ofgem never even regulated it against Suppliers until 2005 even though it has been in for years. Ofgem don't make a customer rights clear on this at all. Consequently it's left to Suppliers to do most of it and they have no motivation to do it since it costs them!!!

Nobody has, however all of this hassle could have easily been avoided if the meter had been regularly read!

Yes, but thats an obligation on the Supplier...not the customer. Even after giving a reading when Susie noticed, the Suplier still made a mess of it and let this go in unnecessarily.

I wasn't stating you were, it was a general point of consumers not being to blaim for things like this. Suppliers have the mechanisms to pick them up.

I agree with you, I certainly do mine every quarter.

  • They came to change the meter today...turns out that the clock was faulty and I have been on E7 all the time. However, Npower had got the readings mixed up and were charging me the day rate for ALL my usage. After going over my bills, it works out that they still owe me anyway!

    Let's see what happens next!
  • Ok! I have just had the biggest shock of my life!

Before I changed over to Npower, I was with Powergen. Now, I have checked back with the readings from the switch over and discovered that Powergen were also mixing up the day/night readings.
Doe's anyone know if I can claim money back from Powergen...i left them in may this year?
And if I can, is there a time frame in which I have to do this?

    Thanks!
    Susie.
