When is it not worth appealing private parking charges

Hello,
Hope this is appropriate to start this as a new thread, I couldn't find the info on this forum, I'm also very new to this myself.
I wanted to ask when is it not worth beginning an appeal on parking charge notices from private firms?
In my case, the hospital I work at issued me a parking charge notice, when I was working on call overnight. In the hours before I received the charge, I had some urgent patients needing urgent care and I did not move my car quick enough. Of course I can try to appeal, I am going to send an email to the Trust politely asking to cancel the notice (long shot I know).
As I work on call, I want to park as close as possible for safety reasons, being an alone female being aware of the type of people you run into at 4am nearby hospital grounds.
Really I assumed that they would not employ someone to check tickets overnight, more fool me, but really when is peace of mind more valuable than saving money on a parking charge?
Many Thanks!

To answer the question posed in your thread title... I'm sorry, but I cannot think of any occasion when is it not worth appealing private parking charges.
Please go to the NEWBIES FAQ sticky thread to better understand the game you are now caught up in.0 -
remind the trust of their obligations under these guidelines issued by JEREMY HUNT 3 years ago
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/nhs-patient-visitor-and-staff-car-parking-principles/nhs-patient-visitor-and-staff-car-parking-principles
read the NEWBIES FAQ sticky thread and appeal it - regardless , as KEEPER
assuming this is in england or wales of course
the ideal solution is a landowner cancellation, ie:- by the trust0 -
Thank you! Like I say, I'm new to this game. It was an awful end to an already tiring on call shift. Wish me luck!0

''Rip-offs from car park Cowboys must stop''; unfair treatment; signage deliberately confusing to ensure a PCN is issued; ''years of abuse by rogue parking companies''; bloodsuckers; ''the current system of regulation is hopeless, like putting Dracula in charge of the blood-bank''; extortionate fines; rogue operators; ''sense of injustice''; unfair charges and notices; wilfully misleading; signage is a deliberate act to deceive or mislead; ''confusing signs are often deliberate, to trap innocent drivers''; unreasonable; a curse; harassing; operating in a disgusting way; appeals service is no guarantee of a fair hearing; loathed; outrageous scam; dodgy practice; outrageous abuse; unscrupulous practices; ''the British Parking Association is as much use as a multi-storey car park in the Gobi desert''; and finally, by way of unanimous conclusion: ''we need to crack down on these rogue companies. They are an absolute disgrace to this country. Ordinary motorists and ordinary residents should not have to put up with this''.
These are the exact words used, so you should quote them to your MP in a complaint and ask him/her to contact Sir Greg Knight MP if he wants further information about this scam.

What is it with defeatist newbies today - There have been far more threads than normal...?0

As I work on call, I want to park as close as possible for safety reasons, being an alone female being aware of the type of people you run into at 4am nearby hospital grounds.
Have you talked to the hospital about your situation. They have a duty of care to their employees and you appear to have a genuine case to have some sort of adjustment to the (overall) parking regime.
Trusts are usually bound by a Local Authority Traffic Plan which (usually) restricts parking places to less than demand - which is why the PPC control is brought in. These reasons can't apply overnight so it would be unusual for them to reply on the strictures of the TP to deny you a closer space in the evenings.
Ask and get them to reply on a letter. Mention a duty of care which you will be familiar with. Start at your Traffic Plan Co-ordinator or Estates and work up from there. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I am not sure it is about being defeatist is it? It's more about not having the knowledge that some on here have - and, legitimately thinking, like the OP, that they have done something wrong. There's a sign - it says I can't park here - and I did.
I think there is a need to be careful about how newbies are handled here. I can see the frustration about not reading stickies/doing forum searches (pretty normal forum behaviour in my experience) but, also, it is worth remembering this is a whole new world to many.
Anyway, back to the OP.
Others have far more knowledge than me on the complexities of challenging a ticket. I have to say, though, that this is one that I, sincerely, hope you win. I think you've made the right first step. A polite email to the trust (which is what I would have done), saying what you said here should, to most reasonable people, end up with the trust cancelling the ticket.
After that I cannot add to the excellent post by IanEmanresu above.0 -
An appeal to a PPC will cost you virtually nothing and an appeal to PoPLA maybe 2-3 hours of your time, defending a claim in court, even if you win, several hours of your time and perhaps some loss of earnings. You have to decide where to draw the line.
When my wife was accused of shoplifting by Tesco the CPS ended up paying our legal costs of £10,000. It is who blinks first that matters
The more time you devote to the matter, the more it will cost the PPC. Counter claim and join your employers in the claim and it will cost them hundreds, perhaps thousands.
However, complaining to your MP will cost you very little. Parliamnent is on your side against these scammers. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
Hufflepuffian do you not have a staff parking permit?0

Which parking firm?
Hope you've taken on board NOT to say who was driving (and no, the PPC do NOT know).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
