When is it not worth appealing private parking charges

  • Hello,
Thank you for all your reply!!!8217;s and support, like I said before it!!!8217;s all very new so sorry to be naive in these things.
I will be writing a polite email to the trusts travel company/estates to try and get it cancelled.

So I can apply for a permit but I only need it during for the nights, I have been parking there for years overnight due to the belief that it!!!8217;s unfair to be charged to park in the grounds for safety reasons. Recently new signs have gone up and without me realising restrictions must have got tighter. I will be looking into a permit, will have to pay unfortunately but will be worth it especially if I can get a reduced rate for nights.

It is indigo car park company, I have checked it is on the BPA list, and I read through the newbie thread (SO MANY CAPITAL LETTERS! !!!55357;!!!56838;) but next time as someone suggested I will search the previous posts.

So if this email doesn!!!8217;t work, I will badger them a few more times and then go through the appeals process. It may be a bit of work but as you say it!!!8217;s costing the PPC people money and it!!!8217;ll be supporting my colleagues.

    Indigo at a Hospital, where?

Indigo can be beaten at POPLA. But you must appeal to Indigo first, within 28 days.

If you ignore them, read this mess as a cautionary tale:

Read the transcript and learn how NOT to deal with such a case.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

As a slight digression, I have had a small number of situations when the ticket has been paid, but with an ulterior motive.

One was paid because the rental vehicle was being used by the property manager who had contracted the parking company. He had to pay £115 to park in his own allocated space, but the reg was wrong on the permit. He stamped his feet and shouted and screamed, but the parking company wouldn't cancel, so we wouldn't refund.

We also had a few vehicles supplied to one of the top 5 parking companies. We paid a lot of their tickets and billed them back. They refused to pay, but we used the standard line of "if you can get the PPC to cancel it, we will refund it". We heard nothing more from them.

I regularly get instruction from high net worth individuals to pay all fines and charges, because it is not worth their time to deal with it. One chap in particular lives in Mayfair, and his fines account is well into 5 figures. According to the Times Rich List though, this is no more than a pocket of loose change to him.

  • It is Indigo at Southampton UHS Hospital, I have received a reply from the estates team

'In this case the PCN was issued correctly and in accordance with all relevant legislation. No staff permit has been applied for, and up to date information regarding all of our permits is available on the staff intranet. Also, it is possible to contact Estates for advice regarding situations that may be upcoming or require clarification.

Therefore in this circumstance we cannot cancel the PCN and the charge indicated must be paid.'

I apologize if this is defeatist (pogofish ;) )but surely this will be the same reply I will get from going to appeal and then going to POPLA. One of my colleagues is suggesting I get my union involved, is that appropriate.

    Thank you!

Yes of course it is. This is a matter of staff safety which they MUST have regard for. They cannot just hide behind parking policy that is surely in place during the DAY, not overnight when its half empty?

WHo says you are to pay? Indigo regularly stuff up at POPLA. You wiill know this through your research.

No because no POPLA appeal would be about any of that!
