Perhaps my thinking was wrong. Its down to the discetion of your local council. I have seen signs about no over-night stays in certain places, seaside towns, car parks etc

Or did you just post without even thinking about it?

6 months over the summer or winter? That'll make quite a difference to comfort.

If you want a motor home anyway then give it a go. You can always rent a property if the motor home doesn't work out.

You are not allowed to 'live' in any vehicle on the road.

Well that's tens of thousands of lorry drivers stuffed then. My lad is out all week in his.

We used to have these signs in lay bys but council were challenged and ruling went against them.

Same here - but there are still local byelaws against occupancy of caravans/mobile homes over a longer term - usually aimed at preventing year-round occupation. Put simply - the local council has got the hump over caravans/motorhomes being parked-up on spare bits of land and used as holiday homes or farm/temporary worker accommodation and have stated their intention to kill them-off. New permissions are difficult to get and are nearly all are on sites or associated with specific projects/renovations with a timescale for eventual removal.

So the OP might get away with six months if they have the neighbours on their side but if things over-run, planning permission might be required and there may be a specified period of non-occupation, IIRC something like 30 days in each year.

Only where the easy targets are involved - and when they are not amongst the well-connected/favoured few who get to put-up mega-camps so long as they are out of public view.

I am sure it will become more common, unless the councils can find a law against it.
