I for one am soooo relieved the site is back up - I have been at my wits end not being able to talk things out and get myself on the straight and narrow! I hope the people who did this get what they deserve - it simply shows how much of a threat they find this site - clearly educating consumers is not what they like!!!!
But hey, they can try as much as they like to beat it - they won't ever win!!!!
I just hope they feel ashamed - as Martin said they are messing with people's lives.Proud to be dealing with my debts!DFW Nerd No. 634 LBM: 3rd time - Dec2008 I NEED TO BEAT IT THIS TIME!Total Loan Debt = £[strike]13,737.80[/strike] 13,042.44, Total Non-loan Debt = £[strike]5,289.33[/strike] 4,704.45 - Total= [strike]19,027.13[/strike] 17,746.89 FEB 09Freelance earnings - Feb 09 = £260 so far Make £30 a day in Feb - £260.40 of £840 5 NSD in Feb 09 - 1 of 50 -
Hi - excellent idea I-A:T
I have only just seen this thread so have missed the opportunity to offer a donation, and thereby the missed the 5 pounds to spend on a treat.
It is however lovely to see so many others who appreciate the good that this site does being willing to "put their hands in their pockets".
This site is a community and a force for good, educating and informing users so that they will overcome/avoid the misery of debt and have a better standard of living within their means.
I can see a case for proposing that this site should be part funded by the NHS mental health budget, until that happens though I will be delighted that Martin is making his fortune from something that is so successfully helping so many people (for FREE)(including me), who are in financial trouble.
Thanks Martin

well I, unlike some, I am proud to admit that I felt quite lost without my mates over the weekend! Life just wasnt the same without MSE to check in on and I am happy to acknowledge that I am a sad git! Do I care that others dont? No, not one iota!
However, I have entered into the spirit of things, got dressed (unlike some round here chose not to eave the house in my PJ's!) and popped off to coop where I duly spent £5.05 (over budget as always!!) on very nice bottle of wine & lots of sweeties! So thank you Martin for the permission to go out & spend a frivellous £5 (like I needed arm twisting!!) but most of all a heartfelt THANK YOU for a life changing site. I hope you are a squillionairre! You work hard & are a passionate advocate for us all & I for one hope you get loads of dosh in the process! Good on you & bah humbug to the jealous amongst you! My life has been changed by this site and this weekend has proved this, as it has to many. To be amongst people who cant afford to go out but need support with the crippling sentence that debt brings makes a huge difference to my day to day life. I had no doubt over the weekend that you would all be working behind the scenes to sort things and I cannot thank you enough! Its good to be back! Huge squidgy hugs from me!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Isn't it amazing how every one has enjoyed spending £5? So why are we all in so much debt? Does a larger sum spent on a car or a fancy holiday or a smart oak kitchen make you feel any better.....oh I am like a moth being drawn to the light......Why do i do it...why didn'y I buy a box house with a formica kitchen and enjoy lambrini? I don't follow the reasoning of that.
Basically the attack was from an external source, so short of disconnecting that users net connection, whatever defences that are in place will not stop the same person commiting something like this again.
So donating to a fund will not really prevent this from happening again
But no logging of that originating command. So unless they're very careless, it's impossible to trace.
The originating signal/command will have come from somewhere, even if to start the zombie chain
Maybe take a computer forensics team to trace it all the way through, or indeed a squad of hackers who use MSE, now theres incentive
I think the main points are thats its good this sites working again, we have an industry with a very strong motive, and an industry full of low lives who care only about money.
As said before someone will have been paid a lot of money to do this.0 -
