Should I liken this to driving too fast down our rural (single track) roads and then crashing the car?

    :D:o
thought about putting a bit of stress on your network and download a fair few huge bits of software like huge linux distros like centos and unbutu etc, just queue them up

Are the metered connections, and one with limits still in existence? Thought they had all gone,,,, except for mobiles and satellite :)?

Did think of suggesting using torrents, but that if not configured correctly may flood the routers nat table

ADSL lines are no more likely to fail while there is a download in progress than while idle. There is constant traffic non-ip traffic between the modem and exchange at all times.

Also this will not help your problem but if you want a better router then a vigor 2820n or the better 2830n are now old, but very good and on ebay for around £35. It s not the best router but at that price it is hard to beat

I picked up the 2830n for £9.99 including postage last year. :-)

Lucky, good price! I had 2x 2820n on plusnet, Fantastic, stable routers.

Now one provider is sky, and the other is ee. While I had some network trouble on ee (intermittent patch lead) and swapped ee router back to sort stuff out.

Next router will probably be a second hand APU. If i ever go fibre, a fanless i3 cpu base running OPNSense or pfSense on which I can install a vpn on.

kwikbreaks, I know what you mean, but more prone to data corruption and noise, a greater chance of detecting a problem, than sitting there doing nothing? Also ISP can measure stuff and is on record

I'm having to drag this one back up again, sorry :o

We ha d a crackle on the line, so on 24/9 we had an OR engineer to 'fix it'.
He said that he had and went on his way.
Our internet speed was about 3meg, but the crackle was still there so we asked OR to come back which they did on 3rd Oct. He said he had 'replaced some tails' somewhere and the crackle was fixed ... but now we only have a 1 meg speed.
I spoke to JohnLewis (Plusnet) who said that there was a cap on the line on 8/10, which they removed ... but today 10/10 the speed is still rubbish.

Can anyone with more knowledge than me see anything in these stats

Your line attenuation has risen post-fix (not good, means reduced max speed) and your snrm hasn't had time to settle yet - if the line's stable DLM can take up to a couple of weeks to settle down, so it's a bit early, unfortunately, to try and force the issue.

Patience and lots of monitoring line stats over the next couple of weeks....
