Advice on box junction fine
Options
Hi All,
I'm wondering if I could have some help please. My son has recently been fined in London for entering a box junction and stopping. He was due to turn left but another car cut in front of him meaning he had to sop in the box junction. Also the marking on the box junction were very faded making it hard to see. I have posted a photo below of him entering the box junction. I would appreciate replies on whether he has grounds for appeal of the fine please.

Looks like he entered the box junction when his exit from it wasn't clear."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I suggest a trip to Pepipoo, com , sign up (no hotmail addy) and someone is sure to help.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

As above. There is a defence if your exit was clear when you entered the box and someone changed lanes cutting you up and blocked it as you were crossing.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

I can't match the photo to the description. Which car is your son's, the one at the bottom of the picture?0

I think its the silver one - all the others are blurred except for that one.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
If it's the silver one then I'm puzzled by the OP's description ... why would he be in the right lane if he was due to turn left?0

7.—(1) Except when placed in the circumstances described in paragraph 8, the road markings shown in diagrams 1043 and 1044 shall each convey the prohibition that no person shall cause a vehicle to enter the box junction so that the vehicle has to stop within the box junction due to the presence of stationary vehicles.
(2) The prohibition in sub-paragraph (1) does not apply to any person—
(a)who causes a vehicle to enter the box junction (other than a box junction at a roundabout) for the purpose of turning right; and
(b)stops it within the box junction for so long as it is prevented from completing the right turn by oncoming vehicles or other vehicles which are stationary whilst waiting to complete a right turn.
However a lot of box junctions are not marked correctly. You can find what markings should be present (and also what measurement limits and marking variants are permitted) under diagrams 1043 and 1044 (its about 4/5ths of the way down the page):

My son has recently been fined in London for entering a box junction and stopping.Box junctions. These have criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road. You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right. At signalled roundabouts you MUST NOT enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping.
