Since Middleson is painting the bathroom I may suggest that he crown his work by replacing the light fittings with something that doesn't blind you when all 8 bulbs work (whatever were we thinking) and ensure we have a few spare bulbs handy.
My refurbished Anglepoise had the potential to be singularly picky about what bulb it would cooperate with, but happily settled for a daylight LED without any fuss at all (we only tried it after some Very Odd Looks weighing lightbulbs in the supermarket, but it was worth the effort). LED doesn't take time to warm up or draw much juice, so it's useless to incubate eggs with but excellent for illumination.
We do also have Tilleys but they take rather specific knowledge which, clutching your phone carefully in your teeth, may be evaporate at the critical point. Once going, they're lovely to bath to.6 -
8 Bulbs DFV? I can be near blinded by 3 I have two lovely metal wall lights I've had for years. Like your Anglepoise they can be very picky. Take bayonet fitting candle bulbs but reject some brands. I bought them as bright brass with lovely fluted glass shades. Spent ages masking off the bulb gubbins and priming undercoating and adding a few coats of a flat white paint suitable for metals. They're lovely all the year round but with bright red ribbon with three massive red baubles on each they're even lovelier at Christmas.I have sort of solved the landing light issue. I was about to close the laptop down last night when my eye caught my signature . I admit it seemed rather ironic. No way was I going to light a stair case with candles not even one. It did trigger the memory of when we were all talking about Solar powered lights. Can't remember if was SHTF or the Prepping thread.I have two of the Ikea table lamp type from back then and a reading lamp. I did test them by charging in sunlight but they've been packed away ever since. I have no idea how well they charge in grey gloomy weather but seem to remember posters were using them in winter. The rain is hammering the windows here in the NW. Not expecting much better tomorrow but will try charging them.I really need to look out all the preps and list exactly what is here.Hope everone has better weather. Take care.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.7 -
As I recall (it was well over a decade ago), the builders installed low voltage halogens & a transformer, all of which will take a bit of doing to replace, not least as we'll have to lift the carpet to lift the boards to exhume the transformer, but to get both illumination & peace of mind,I think it'll be worth it. Right back then it looked very pretty (if you like the "home & garden" style in the bathroom - we were distressingly unappreciative of the Look) but loved a working bathroom, having 3 toddlers!
I wish someone would come up with an "overcast if not actually raining yet" powered lamp...

I loathe those recessed lights in ceilings. They remind me of runway lights. When this house was rewired, the electricians put up all the lights we wanted. We can get up on a stepladder to change bulbs and dust light fittings. Some are on dimmers. I'm looking at changing a lot of them. The Husband is in charge of Things Electrical.
My Brexit prep stash did morph into a lockdown stash as well. I've bought beef, pork, and game lamb for the freezer from farms and butchers (mostly online) and just organic mince and wild salmon from supermarkets, mainly on offer.
I don't have a big stash now. I hope that I can buy direct from farms more.8 -
Looking for a good place to buy Lavazza coffee beans if anybody knows of one?
7 -
Amazon looks like the cheapest place (as usual), from £10.39 inc p&p for a kilo, while over at lavazza.co.uk there’s a black friday sale starting at £11.48, though can’t see how much postage is for <£50 orders without signing up.I tend to amazon with a heavy heart, all those reports of gruelling working conditions, but no denying it’s a godsend if you’re on a tight budget or unable/unwilling to go out and shop.7

Thanks DtR !

Always on the look out for Lavazza offers 8-) Obviously it’s a personal thing, but I’ve tried enough supermarket own brand coffee to know that I’ll end up not using it, mainlining PG Tips to make up the caffeine, not good!
