From under my table, I gather she-who-chided-Boris (Lady Hale) was wearing the most amazing Spider brooch, which has been copied onto a Tshirt & is raising money for Shelter
While we have that sort of media-savvy entrepreneur, we are not in such a deep hole as we might think.
That said, with the met forecast as it is, I'll want my wellies or possibly waders if I'm to get a therapeutic dose of mud this afternoon.
Or you are all welcome to join me under my table?0 -
With all this torrential rain it feels like time to board Noah's Ark and sail away from all this chaos! I think even the most sane minded of us us are now beginning wonder how we will ever get out of this Alice in Wonderland situation. Future historians will look back and shake their heads in amazement.0

Absolutely right!0 -
It will be what it will be, it's never been in the hands of the people just the elite and I'm fairly sure that the 'ordinary everyday people' like us all are not a feature in the thinking of the elite, we're necessary because we're their 'cash cow' to pay their wages and give them money to waste on projects we don't need or want but we're an inconvenience because we don't do as we're expected/directed/told to so we're not consulted or kept in on the loop for information. Me, well I'm just carrying on life as normal, so far as I know nothing has changed sine the day of the 2016 referendum and as I see it nothing will so it's heads under the parapet and each day at a time. They can all go to Hell in their own handcart if they want to but I don't intend going with them!0

I feel comforted that the Law is upheld by the High Court. We don’t always agree with their ruling but any government interfering or challenging the Judiciary is the beginning of a long dark slippery path.
This Wikipedia examining how Germany changed its laws step by step by step to suit a madman is worth a quick read.

I remember reading all this in school, and although I can't remember at what age, or who the teacher was, they conveyed the insidious creeping nature of the process so well that I still get that chilling effect (in fact I'm gnashing my teeth again now just thinking about it)
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
I fear the NHS will suffer even more as a result of the current political chaos. I suspect an inevitable byproduct will be the number of additional people queueing up at their GP's surgeries suffering from depression or anxiety. For this reason alone, we need a resolution.
It's an odd thing how the nation's spirit seems to be lifted when things are going well, yet the national psyche is plunged into gloom and depression when things are going badly and there is a general lack of optimism.
Perhaps a total abstinence from all forms of TV, newspapers and social media for a period of six months would benefit us all !0 -
Well, I'm happy to report that as I'm back on the paracetamol, Mrs Un bought a sneaky extra pack yesterday from the supermarket. They were fully stocked in terms of brands & formats (chalky frisbee, caplet, etc) unlike the previous couple of months

Talking of paracetamol, I’ve been stocking up each week. 2 packs from Aldi and then 2 from Lidl and also the ibuprofen..... just in case !♀️Grocery spends £193.44/ £70 per week or £303 per month0

Vaguely related, I do --not-- expect this to happen but it is common sense. For those with an old torch or a wind-up one (nice but can be expensive)
You can get those mini torches that usually have 3 small white LED's in the end for about £1, local bargain shop had some and I've seen them in BM as well. You do not get batteries for that price! But it takes three AAA batteries (under a £1 again)
Although I've got a reasonable 'main' torch , for the sake of a pound coin (had batteries anyway) it was well worthwhile getting one to keep on a hook just so you know its there.
Random silly thing: Those really cheapy ones are quite hard on batteries, but given its only for emergencies it does not matter. They are quite bright too.
Batteries is a good point too, not a great fan of rechargable ones for some things. Pack of 8/10 AA and AAA types can be had for £1 or less worth keeping a pack.
Note I'm not expecting any battery shortage as we manufacture them here! Nor power cuts! But for the sake of a pound coin it made sense I think.0
