November 2007 Grocery Challenge

Needed washing powder and so went to Spar last night and spent £5.30 on washing powder, squash, soup and crisps.
Running total is now £13.49 (£86.51 to go!)
Have visitors this weekend so will go to Asda at lunchtime (can't spend too much time there then!) to get the next weeks supplies. I have actually written a list for the first time in ages though and will try to stick to it.
Will update with the damage later on!0 -
Well here I am, messed up the start of this month very, very badly after promising not to.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul and have spend all money meant to go up until end of month
(2 weekends entertaining and all self-restraint lost)
So basically I was wondering if I could join November GC for the final 3 weeks??
The reason being that I really need to get this sorted and don't want to wait till December to start again.
Also, OH said something last night about being asked to write down what work he's doing at the moment and various grumblings about 'internal reorganisation' which is filling me with dread as I think I know where that one's heading and my wages don't quite pay the bills...........
So if you'll have me, I promise to try harder!
(£225 till EOM incl, toiletries, cleaning and beer)Needs must when the devil vomits in your kettle..........0 -
Not spent anything since the last time, so it's going well. Good job really as I only have about £8.00 left, lol.
Also, just got a letter from my CC company, they must be missing me... they've just upped my limit by a grand . If it was someone who wasn't a member of this site, just think how damaging that could be _pale_.

Hi HP Lass (a bit saucy are we then? :rotfl:). Welcome to the O/S. Everyone here is jolly, kind, helpful, tight fisted and often funny.
I seem to be losing control of my finances. Can't seem to reduce my spending even on this grocery challenge, despite all the good advice I am being given by all the clever people who inhabit this thread. I will have to rethink what I am here for and concentrate more on how to get my spending down. I suppose it's a matter of attitude and mine at the moment is far too complacent.
As I was in town today I went to our Tesco Metro for the weekend veggies and compared prices against our local convenience store. It was an eyeopener. I have a free bus pass and could save myself a few quid if I went on a Thursday but I am lazy and prefer to walk the 100 yds and pay the price. Also the quality was better than the local store and by the way better what Tesco send you from their Online Store.
Anyway, good luck everybody and keep your purses/wallets shut tight.0 -

:hello: Hiya sweetie,
It's like a diet hon, if you fall off the wagon, all is not lost - you just regroup, reorganise, climb back on and get going again.
I always find I spend more at the end of the month for some reason so I am extra extra disciplined at the beginning to make up for being a bit lax as Pay Day approaches.
(I don't know why it happens but it always seems to so I make allowances for it and build it into the budget!)
Let us know how you're getting on hon.
(Fingers crossed for OH at work.)

Oh balls!
Posted the reply but got kicked out, must learn to type quicker!!!
Thanks mikeD and Jacksxxx
Good to know that there are like-minded people out there.
Don't mention the diet, that's the 3rd challenge:rolleyes:
1st = Grocery, 2nd Debt, 3rd diet. Although i'm hoping the GC will help with the portion control:rotfl:
With regards to the Grocer V Mr T scenario I always knew the Grocer was better value but like you i'd never really looked at it recently.
The '5 items reduced per week' offer seems really good until you compare the price per kg.
I know my onions (pun intended) are 30p per kg cheaper at the grocers and are much better (as i stand in the kitchen crying like some actress in a dire weeply film)
The only thing I pay more for are the HUGE baking spuds and i do that because the last ones i got from the supermarket tasted like flour!
Off work till next week so tomorrow is cooking day:j :j
butcher will be happy as bulk buying and then back home to cook and batch freeze!
Will put a list on the freezer and cross off which was recommended by a lot of people.
will post the scary total tomorrow!
Off the prepare for River Cottage Fishing trip on telly tonight. Mr HFW always cheers me up.
It's raining outside so bangers and mash for tea!!!!!Needs must when the devil vomits in your kettle..........0
