Sadly not. Speeding is a cheap way of ignoring the rules with relatively minor punishment.

A friend of a friend got caught doing 117mph. He got let off with a £1,000 fine (and some hefty solicitors fees), but for someone who always speeds and earns (I'm guessing) upwards of £300k per year, it was no punishment.

Is that one of those "a friend of a friend told me" stories people often hear about?

The punishment doesn't sound right as there would always be points or a ban at that speed and the fine is a big percentage of the guilty persons weekly wage. If they earn upwards of £300,000 a year the fine would be more than £1000 as well.

Answer the OP's question - what happens now.

Plead guilty, pay the fine and carry on.....next time you get caught speeding again do the same, unless your 30+ mph over the limit then you can go to court.
