No power socket for BT Hub

I have just moved house and have transferred my phone and broadband, however the house only has one phone socket, where pre-Hub, a phone was just plugged in.

This socket does not have any power socket nearby to power a BT Hub so I can receive broadband, and is obviously now not fit for purpose.

BT want £130 to move the socket so they can provide broadband. Is this my responsibility to pay this?

I don't know if the BT Home Hub uses a wall plug power supply (or what size connector is used) but you can get extension leads for the circular low-voltage power supply leads eg

The purpose of a phone socket it to provide a telephone line, which is what it does so it is fit for purpose, if you need a socket to power a hub then it is up to you to provide one not BT.

They can supply you with broadband or rent you a line without any problem, you just need to have a socket or pay to have telephone point moved to a more convenient place, your problem not theirs.

    Lots of options.

    1) main extension lead or have new socket installed.
    2) low voltage extension as per Owain
    3) Telephone extension cable
    4) fit a DIY telephone extension

options 3 and 4 may reduce BB speed slightly

    Is this a joke thread?

I have the same problem, overcome in seconds by the cunning use of an extension lead.

    It isn't rocket science.

Not a joke. I cant run an extension lead as nearest socket is in another room and the BT socket is in the hallway. Cant be tripping over wires...obviously!
