I'll also be in bed, either watching the box, reading or sleeping. The change of date will happen whether I'm there to see it or not.

2019 is going to be momentous for you. The year you kick that debt into touch. It's not going to be easy or pleasant but my goodness, its going to be triumphant.

This time next year we will all be laughing hysterically.

Happy New Year! I was asleep by 9pm! :rotfl:
Hope everyone else had a great night whatever you did :)

I had to work last night, midnight to 7am, shocker of a shift... so much to do on less hours and with skeleton staff... my colleague knows me all too well and dragged me off to Costa at 7:15am because (and I quote) "you would've ended up staying til 9am to help them out!" Very true... Anyways, I had a free hot chocolate coz he paid and it was delicious  nice little chinwag for an hour then home and to bed. I'm off today and tomorrow so will catch up on some light housework, washing, bit of cooking and lots of chilling in bed watching Netflix. I intend to register at a new doctors surgery tomorrow which is opposite work. I'm feeling a lot better but not 100% and I don't want to get pneumonia!

Any tips on how to shake off the persistant remnants of a bad cough/chest? I washed all my bedding so as not to reinfect myself but I'm still worried I'll get sick again because my immune system will be shot to pieces!

Oh and I'm keeping a tally, I've paid £979/£12526 off debt so far for Dec/Jan and still have the rest of the month to go so any eBay sales will go to the aqua card :money:

Hi Loolooly, welcome. It's usually just B17c and me swapping tips and insults.

The quick answer to "have I moved?" is sadly NO. I keep being promised dates, the latest being Feb 7th . We haven't even exchanged contracts and my vendor has just pulled out of the house he was buying, so I may be homeless on Feb 7th. Not really, I have too many friends with spare bedrooms for that.

    Anyway, what's your story?
I'm no financial wizard, just a very old lady, brought up during WW2 and the austerity after, with years of making do, mending and generally keeping the wolf from the door under her ever expanding belt.

B17c, how you doing, petal? Hope you've managed to stay reasonably healthy in this cold weather. Just check in soon so I know you are OK.

  • Ah no! How frustrating! House moves are so stressful 😖. I’m a single mum of a young boy. We’re managing on a tight budget - I work 30 hrs and dad pays the required maintenance. However, looking to reduce debt levels to free up £s for better quality of life, future, savings... just want to be able to give my little one a good start really. Trying for promotion at work but is v difficult - very competitive. Some roles I cannot apply for due to travelling requirements etc.

Great tips and support to be found here. All help my enthusiasm !!;)x

Oh Loolooly, I feel for you. Bringing up children is not the easiest thing in the world and doing it alone can truly be the loneliest place.
I ended up being divorced with 12 and 14 year old boys and an ex who paid nothing. The great thing to remember is that when your son is grown up it will be the little things he remembers with affection.

Mine still talk about the picnics on the recreation ground, the camping holidays, the fact that our house was the one that all their friends wanted to come to, the best birthday party ever where they found an old ,punctured football in the garden and kicked it about for an hour before coming in and sitting on the kitchen floor round the campfire, (torch shining through red crepe paper under artistically arranged sticks)and eating bangers and beans. The authentic cowboy experience.

Ingenuity beats expensive treats every time..

The trick is, when all the children around are having expensive treats and toys, you outdo them with fun and imagination.
Having said that, if there is something that every child seems to have and yours really feels left out and different through not having it, you do your level best to see that he has one, maybe grandparents, maybe for a birthday. If he has to wait for it, it will be all the more appreciated, or maybe everyone will be on to the next "must have." thing and he won't want it anymore.

I bet this is not what you were expecting to hear, but if you get the philosophy right, the pounds and pence will fall into place that much more easily.

We can talk about those later.

Thanks for the response- I do feel heartened by this!! Yes it is lonely sometimes and the sense of responsibility feel weighty, but I am much happier now and my son is therefore in a happier environment - one year on! Xx:)

Hi Monnagran and welcome Loolooly! Sorry I haven't been around much, January was a looonggg month and I did a fair bit of overtime so I've pretty much been working and sleeping... I've paid another £600 off the aqua card so that's good, and a little extra off the Crapitall One. I managed to pay £1045 to the credit cards in January and I'm hoping for the same amount in February!

That's a pain in the bum that you haven't moved yet Monnagran!!! X
