The water company couldn't go on the land to fix the leak without the owner's permission .....
Water companies may enter land to effect a repair, as can power and telecoms companies, so I'm not sure that's correct.

They might have had the right to, but not wanted to take the risk.

I suppose it would depend on how valuable they thought their water was. Police would attend if requested, and they certainly would if it was 11kV power cabling involved! :rotfl:

You are right. But they wont if there is a risk to personal safety. The site and neighbourhood near me had no power for a week after the engineers got stones thrown at them so refused to go without a police escort.

The postman also stopped visiting after threats of violence so from then on all post to the site had to be collected from the post office!

I find that sad. Impact depends how large this neighbourhood is, but you'd think the fact that electricity is literally a lifeline for some would prompt faster action, never mind the £thousands wasted in lost income spoiled food etc.

I'm out in the sticks, where we average a power cut a month, but it's never off for very long.

I don't blame the electricity workers for refusing to go on site after having stones thrown at them but am surprised it took a week to arrange a policy escort.

    Oh I bet it is.

I know these companies have the right to literally "break in" if it's needed. But I bet they're frit too - and "being too busy", "forgetting about it", "being too busy" again and any other excuse they can think of.

if you want a snapshot of what fellow Britons feel about this, google 'would you live near a gypsy site' and see the results.

You could be lucky and get good ones as neighbours, but the majority of buyers won't take that risk, and my point relates entirely to resale value.

Could I ask why they are being provided with their own housing? i.e not integrated within the community bit by bit.

    That I do not understand.

Having seen the devastation and rubbish dumping and lack of responsibility of that group I would say a big fat NO.

But there are horrible neighbours of all sorts, but they are not corralled. Difficult as it is. I suppose the race card can be pulled by these people.

They do not seem to need social housing, well that is only judging by the number of mercedes that follow a coffin of their deceased these days.
