Is carpet in lounge a yay or a nay?

I have always sworn by hard floors as carpets are a pain to shampoo til they are clean (takes soooo long lol). I tend to have dogs so it was easy to mop the floors but with the rain, unless I wiped the dogs paws as they came in, I seemed to never stop wiping the floor.
But I was given some unused carpet a couple of months ago and decided to see just how good the Kirby I bought for £100 is. I still wipe the dogs paws when they come in when its wet (feel a bit of a saddo doing that lol) but I have to say the carpet looks as good and clean as it did when it entered the house. I had to wipe up a water stain (ugly mutt decided to see how much water his bowl was holding) and there was absolutely no dirt at all.
Carpets are warmer, and more comfortable to walk upon (I have a bit of arthritis). And its nice to walk on a carpet with bare feet (no grit like you get with hard floors or you can't feel it).
I hoover once or twice a day. Kirby is second to none. My Dyson left pet fur everywhere. Couple of minutes with the Kirby and its all gone (fairly large room too, 5m by 5m).
Definitely a convert. But I think you have to have the right tools if you have a pet. I have a shampooer and my beloved Kirby. Haven't had to shampoo it yet (and Kirby's will shampoo as well).
Kirby's are horrendously expensive to buy new (and the new models have plastic rather than metal parts so I suspect they won't last forever like the G5's) but can often see the older ones on ebay for £100, pay for servicing and you're sorted (no I don't work for them lol). I paid nearly £360 for my Dyson and it just couldn't cope with my dogs. And the engine burnt out, had to be replaced. There are lots of vids on Youtube on maintaining them.0 -
We've just moved into a house with laminate on the living room and dining room and we both hate it. It's cold, hard, noisy and ugly. One other disadvantage no-ones mentioned - drop something and it breaks (cups, phones, specs) - no second chances.0

i much prefer wood flooring to carpet as its nice and cool underfoot and much easier to clean and can be swept, wiped or mopped so no hoovering required! i notice that new builds generally come with laminate in living room but carpet in bedrooms - not sure why as i would not want any carpet in my home.0
