Dubrovnik Walls- £20 to walk around

We were amazed when we visited Dubrovnik they wanted £20 a person so you could walk around the walls which would take approximately one hour. To us it was an exorbitant charge and fleeced the tourists. In the UK we don't charge to walk around the walls at Chester or Berwick

You're charged here to stand in a field and look at some big stones (Stonehenge) .... the princely sum of £17.50 (£19.50 is the "walk up" price/not pre-booked) - and you don't EVEN get any walls!

You can get into Stonehenge for free though.

Its 150 HRK, so a bit under £19 which pays for the upkeep, repair, cleaning etc etc of all the medieval town. It also gets you into a fort just outside which has amazing views Dubrovnik.

The walk is about 2km and is a one way system as bits of it are quite narrow, plenty of places to stop and admire the views and enjoy an overpriced ice cream or beer.

I thought it was a touch expensive but not over the top for what it was - got some fabulous photos. We want after 6pm when cruise ship passengers had gone back, and no where near as hot as middle of day.

Are they charging the makers of Game of Thrones enough?

Tell me how and I'll try it .... and don't say "by buying a £57 EH membership" because that doesn't count.

    Two ways.

    1. Access to the stones is free at sunrise on both the summer and winter solstice.

    2. The old grassed over Road is now open as a footpath.

    Sound advice.

Dubrovnik gets swamped when cruise ships are visiting.....same as many places that simply weren't built to cope with the numbers they attract.

Best bet if you're going to Dubrovnik [and the like] on holiday, check the Port cruise ship schedule website before you book. If you are on a cruise then you either suck it or plan your own day away from the crowds.

Dubrovnik was my biggest disappointment, not only because of cruise ship crowds which made the place impassible, but that almost every premise was tourist oriented.

The smaller villages along the coast are delightful, but that place - ugh!
