It should be a contactless debit card- I have this account, have had it for many years and I have a contactless Visa Debit on it.

The advisor told me that I will not get a contactless card but that doesn’t matter to me providing I can use it online

That’s what I initially thought. I have a poor credit score from 5 years back when I had an overdraft.
If someone could chime in and confirm that Barclays still offer non contactless debit cards that would be great:j

The reason i asked is because Barclays seem to contradict themselves, whilst i was filling out the form online last night they said you will get a choice between cash and debit card, and i never did. I then received one email saying i will receive a cash card and then another email saying i'll get a debit card. Same story when i contact them, one will say cash and the other will say debit card.

I thought cash cards are strictly for savings accounts and debit cards for current accounts

That's not the case at all. Lloyds and Halifax, for example, don't provide contactless cards on their basic accounts. Their websites are quite clear in explaining that they are not provided. There's an old thread on the forum complaining about it:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5469470/no-contactless-card-on-lloyds-bank-basic-account&highlight=lloyds+basic+contactless

I've just checked Santander's website and the debit cards for their basic account aren't contactless.

I don't think HSBC provide contactless cards on basic accounts either. I can't find a statement on their website saying they aren't available, but there's no statement saying they are (as with their ordinary current account) and the picture of the debit card on the web page for the HSBC basic bank account doesn't have the contactless symbol on it.

All the evidence together would suggest that at least half of the banks don't provide contactless debit cards with basic accounts.

It's unlikely that they won't provide one automatically, to be honest, but if they don't, by all means ask for one. The worst that could happen is that they say no.

Will do thanks. I Don't see why they would decline because im not asking for an overdraft or anything just the money that my advocate transfers to me each month.
