Yesterday I sold an item and the person had 9 feedback and had been a member since 2009, no feedback in the last year. Anyway the item I sent was by a code to give them access to some services so I ended up sending it electronically as it was due to expire yesterday.

Anyway today I receive a message saying that there was unauthorised activity on the buyers account.

Can anyone give me any tips or advice as I don't know what happens in this situation. Will the payment will get reversed which means I am now worse off as if it didn't sell I was going to use it myself but now I cant as they will have used it and now not paid.

We were in touch via ebay message and everything seemed ok but now I've looked and the feedback I left and that he left for me has now gone.

What happens in this situation?

This thread will probably be of use as it is a similar issue.

EDIT would help if I actually posted the link!

Now it seems the entire listing has been removed on Ebay and I can't even view it or anything. And some of the messages have gone too.

The person had 100% feedback and it's not a nice feeling as yesterday I was excited. It's the first time I've offered to send something as normally anything I sell (which is just now and then) are collection only but I'm left feeling like this is a massive deal and something that could really put me off using Ebay, I feel so silly.

Thanks Soolin, that has raised some good points although I'm still not sure what happens now overall and will the payment get reversed or what?

As it was EBay that said they think the persons account has been compromised and have deleted the item and it would appear some of most of the messages.

Sounds like your buyers account has been hacked.

When this happened to me, eBay deleted all signs of the transaction, fortunately the item was not posted yet.

Hijacked account and they bought something that was a common scam item.

I'm guessing the code has been used?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

If the item is worth more than the cost of a stamp send a letter to the buyer with the code, get a dated proof of postage showing at least the post code from the Post Office.

You will need proof of postage otherwise the Paypal chargeback will cost you £14.

You guessed right. It was due to expire yesterday but if it wasn't purchased then I would have used it myself.

Thanks for this info, my jaw dropped to the floor. So they are going to charge me £14 if the payment is reversed?!

If I send a letter to the buyer with the code, signed for. And the buyer doesn't accept it, or returns it to sender...then what happens? And I marked it as dispatched yesterday but if I go today, then the proof of posting will be today?

Any help appreciated as I know the PO closes. I thought it was bad enough losing the item but now losing £14 on top. I feel such a fool and it's a horrible feeling.

The item was worth about £30 but I sold it for half.

In my Paypal the buyer has opened up a dispute. I have until the 8th to respond. The options I am given are as follows.

How would you like to resolve this issue?
Option 1. I have not posted the item and I would like to refund the payment.
Option 2. I can provide proof that the item was posted through an approved postal service to the address on the Transaction Details page.
What information can you provide? What information can you provide?
Option 3. I can provide online tracking information for delivery through an approved postal service to the address on the Transaction Details page.
Option 4. I can upload or fax proof that the item was posted through an approved postal service to the address on the Transaction Details page.

I have refunded the payment for this transaction.None of these apply to me.

I am not sure how to proceed, do I send a letter recorded or something else?

Any advice welcome as I've never had this before and it's all new to me.
