Who would like their phone to have a removable battery?
Options
Out of interest, and related to a conversation that I started in another thread: how many people would like to have an option to replace the battery in their smartphone (e.g. to be able to carry a spare battery and pop it in if the main battery goes flat)?
It would also have the benefit that as and when your phone's battery started to lose its battery capacity - this typically begins to happen after 18-24 months - you would not need to buy a new phone to address the problem. You would only need to buy a new battery and your battery life would be restored to (literally) good as new.

Would you prefer your next smartphone to have a replaceable battery? 51 votes

YesMy phone does have a removable battery. I wouldn't buy a phone that didn't.0

NoThe best reason for having a removable battery, is the ability to hard reset a locked up phone by removing the battery.
If you need charge on the move carry a USB Power Bank, simple0 -
Mine has a removable battery, too.0

YesI usually need to replace the battery before the phone, so I wouldn't buy a phone where the battery was non-removable.The best reason for having a removable battery, is the ability to hard reset a locked up phone by removing the battery.

A spare phone battery is much smaller, though.0 -

I would! I use an iPhone, which I like, but would prefer it to have a removable battery. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

NoThe question isn't put forward very clearly, the cost of that spare battery means a bigger, thicker and heavier phone probably without waterproofing as well. While the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a removable battery the waterproofing is easily spoilt by dirt getting on the seal around the battery cover and Samsung saw lots of water damaged phones because people messed up the seal or didn't put the back on properly.
So the question should be, would you like your next phone to come with a removable battery if it meant it would be bigger, thicker, heavier and not waterproof?0 -
YesGood point. But then I'm using one phone daliy that's now 4 and a half years old, still lasting over a day on its original (removable) battery. Maybe I'm just lucky ...
.. and far more dangerous to carry round. With those exposed contacts. if a L-Ion battery shorts across metal then that's a incendiary device. Charging it is also a palaver, unless you invest in a separate charging base.
I carry my spare phone battery in the little cardboard box that it came in.
When I fly, I put insulating tape over the contacts.0 -

^^ That's exactly what i was going to say0 -
I did have my doubts going from a Galaxy S4 to an S6 but after 18 months there have been no issues.
People that say carrying a powerbank is bulky and bigger than an original battery need to shop around. You can get chargers barely bigger than a single 18650 battery.
Or if you prefer a flat square powerbank, those are available but nowhere near as common. When carrying an original spare battery do you not put it in a case anyway?
Wireless charging works well. No more cables and sockets to fail, although i have never broken one.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
