Why does TV only go to standby, not off, from remote?

Somewhere in the router settings will be the option to turn that light off
Or you could buy these which I just found:

By turning it off "on the wall", you may also run into the issue that software updates and channel re-scans, which are often done in the early hours where it's less likely the TV is in use, won't take place.0

Potentially. The warming (when powered up) and cooling (when powered down) will cause parts to expand and contract very slightly. It is possible that expanding and contracting cycles can start to break components or weaker soldered joints between components.wallofbeans wrote: »Turning it off at it's power switch (not at the plug) is going to do that??
It is not a big risk but it is one nonetheless.0 -

Exactly. Electronics do best when maintained at a constant temperature. Powering it down overnight means it will cool down for a substantial period of time and then it will heat up again when powered on. Over time this stresses the components more than if they were just at a constant temperature. . Nothing major but enough to make a statistical difference. It may not affect your TV but the odds are increased.0 -
I want a remote that turns my TV off completely and then can also turn it back on. Someone invent this and I'll buy it.
That won't happen. The reason your TV sits in standby, and the power that is used in standby is powering 1. That LED light, and 2, the infra red receiver that your remote control talks to. You CAN'T turn on a fully powered off TV with the remote, because the infra red receiver has no power. So it follows that there's not much point in fully turning off that way.
There MAY be an option to alter the LED behaviour. If you're able to turn your Blu Ray player ON with the remote, it's coming out of standby, not fully off. It's 'standing by' for you to operate it, and as above, it's powering the infra red sensor, but in this case, not an LED.Or you could buy these which I just found:

No. Off and on at the wall exposes a small spike risk, which the electronics should deal with. But if we're talking about leaving a TV in standby instead of fully switching off, that'll still happen with the temps going up when in full operation, and cooling down again when into standby. I can still hear the clicks of the plastic cooling down on some LCD TVs.0 -

As I said, it doesn't bother me, none of the standby lights bother me. If we need to get up in the night and pass through the lounge, it's actually useful.
wallofbeans: That's £3.65 to factor in to the minuscule amount of power that the blue light uses.:DI think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
