Does anyone know the real reason for the issues at Stansted? Was just lightning knocking out the refuelling system electronics? Why was it mainly Ryanair flights that were cancelled?
this was the bbc news article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-44270666
all airlines were affected however given that Ryanair have the highest number of flights/passengers from Stansted, there would have been more Ryanair passengers affected than those of other airlines
Jet2 weren’t accepting claims via Resolver a year ago. That may have changed. When I attempted to use it I got a response telling me to claim in writing. I think I used a mixture of Resolver’s wording and a template that was either linked to from Vauban’s fabulous guide, or possibly on this site.
Good luck, and as Tyzap said, perhaps we’ll see you on the Jet2 thread!
Any news? Did someone got any compensation (250-600 EUR)? Or replies maybe? I just wondering: if this was a general problem, how some flights was able to fly? thanks for the answers.
Just to let people know we got a payout from Thomas Cook for a 12 hour delay from Corfu to Stansted on 28th May. BACs payment today. It was a knock on from the lightning strike as the plane didn't get back to Stansted in time to fly out Monday morning to collect us. I have to say we were well looked after for the 12 hours delay. I hope anyone who was at Stansted waiting to fly to Corfu also claims . I know where I would rather be stuck.Used resolver template but logged it directly on thomas cook website. and uploaded resolver text as a letter.
Good that Thomas Cook paid out. We were delayed returning from Split with Jet2. Just had an acknowledgement they have received my claim. According to Botts website we have a valid claim but hoping that Jet2 payout without getting the lawyers involved.
dsw_123 - I hope they do, but I suspect they won’t. You should meander over to the Jet2 thread. They paid out on my claim almost one year to the day after the delayed flight. They agreed to settle, and after some negotiation, concede confidentiality. They did this just nine working days away from trial. But only after they had received my witness statement, which took many hours of work. I didn’t engage a solicitor. Remember, Jet2 still refuse to sign up to an arbitration and dispute resolution scheme (ADR) so the only option is court.
I too was one of the people caught up in this mess at Stansted...
I wanted to ask if there has been anyone successful in receiving the EU261 compensation?
I have chased Ryanair this evening on live chat.
They first stated that I had already been refunded for the flights -which is true, however I am also pursuing the cancellation compensation. They will escalate my claims (I have another one during that week for "bad weather")
I believe that there could be a claim, as not all flights were cancelled. I was heading to CPH, and the flight before mine eventually took off (4 hours late) so they were choosing which ones to cancel.
Anyway... would be great to see if any precedent was being set for this particular eventful day by Ryanair...
many thanks!
FYI, this is a full list of cancelled flights from that day (from an article in the Sun newspaper) plus some from claimants, they all seem to have something in common!

Anyone with a good view of what the issues were?
