Number one: might only be a few years old but the style of kitchen and bathrooms look dated already, the open plan kitchen/living area looks cramped and uninviting, every room looks dark and what the hell is going on with that staircase?! If it was built by a builder it might be well constructed, but it's still terribly designed. Can't really see any redeeming features.

Number 2: Open plan living again, but it looks more homely than number one. The ensuite seems like a massive waste of space in a house that's already got a main bathroom and a downstairs loo. Prefer it to number one though.

is it just me, or the kitchen in the first property looks like a health hazard? Doesn't take much to either trip up or fall down, depends which way you're going ...

You're out my neck of the woods, does it have to be soham? If you look further afield there's a lot of nice stuff on the market

House 1 looks small and dark, it has few windows and primarily faces north. The marketing of the attic room as an attic room, rather than a bedroom is slightly curious too.

Is it something to do with the stairs? They have a very steep pitch if you look closely, look like ladder steps.

Property one as it is detached. Having lived previously in semis and maisonettes, I would always go for the detached option if everything else is equivalent
  • Sorry, I wouldn't choose either of them. I'd be going back fo the drawing board.
  • Not a fan of either but property 1. It's detached and you never know whom you are going to get as neighbours. I also don't like new builds and estates.

that staircase in house 1 would put me right off. i wouldn't go for either of them to be completely honest. If i was forced i would probably just about choose 1.

For me property 1 is very dark. Not enough info on 2 to judge that.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

Not really keen on the two choices.

    Property 1:

Why is the kitchen up a step from the lounge? Apart from the risk of falling over backwards when pushing the dining chair back I do not like that it makes the kitchen ceiling height less.

I don't like the use of the loft room as a bedroom and I bet it doesn't meet the fire regs for that. On the one hand they advertise it as a loft room (as is accurate) but on the other hand they lure you by saying currently used as a bedroom. Besides who needs a shower in a loft room - it's really posing as an en-suite and they even describe it as an en-suite.

I do not like the paddle stairs. Maybe they are OK for young uns to climb but how easy will it be when you are carrying tea and biscuits or the hoover up to the bedroom/office/hobby room up there?

Deduct one point every time the description says magnificent.

    Property 2:

They don't give much detail. I find the 3-d floorplan hard to visualise the room sizes. The bathroom and en-suite look large compared to the bedrooms, or is that a distortion on the 3-d?

Is not detached like property 1.

Allegedly bigger than property 1. EPC for property 1 says total floor area 76m sq. The description for property 2 claims 89 square metres. Odd as the room measurements seem to look bigger for property 1.

TBH don't really like them so would find it hard to choose but if pushed I'd probably choose 2.

Maybe go for none of them or if you are really torn and must have one what about offering low on both and see if anything you can get knocked off the price helps split them apart.
