We bought some furniture from http://www.dfs.co.uk/home maybe 5 or 6 years ago. The fabric was quite heavy guage cream/beige colour with a sculptured woven in pattern. I seem to recall that it was protection treated as standard and not sold as an extra at the time (probably all included somewhere along the line) The furniture still looks as good as new and has worn very well. It has had stuff accidentally dropped on it and cleaned up easily. I must say i was happy with DFS and felt i got a good deal.
Unfortunately buying furniture these days is just as frought with danger as buying a used car or double glazing...0 -
My friend works for DFS, he tells me that the actual cost of the chemicals to protect a 3 piece suite costs less than £10.
So I would challenge the outrageous cost.0 -

Does anyone know if it is possible to get sofa's scotchguarded professionally after you have purchased them? I have two red John Lewis sofa's that I desperately want to get protected.0

Most furniture retailers will sell fabric protection as a package. This will include the application of an appropriate protector along with an insurance/warranty element. On rare occasions, it is not possible to treat a fabric with a protector so you may be offered what is often called a "Dry Warranty" ie a warranty/insurance without the protector being applied.
Scotchgard (note the spelling) is not the only high quality protector available. The name is often used as a general term. It's a bit like calling all vacuum cleaners a Hoover.
There are several versions of branded Scotchgard. Many retail products will only offer resistance to water based spillages. The products used by cleaning professionals will almost certainly offer resistance to both water and oil based spillages along with dry soil too. I believe that non of the Scotchgard brand have been approved as Woolsafe, so may only be suitable for use on some synthetic fibres.

Check if your sofa is actually a real suede or the more likely and more practicle polyester flocked imitation. A professional cleaner should be able to identify.

Most carpets and fabrics can be protected at anytime in it's life. It is however, essential that they are correctly cleaned first, then protected.
A good starting point when looking for a well trained and insured carpet cleaning company is to contact the industry's leading trade association, as is the case for many trades and services.

hello
I purchased a Guardsman plan when purchasing a suite from Harvey's last May(2010) and it was the biggest waste of £235 ever. A freak accident left my new 3 seater with a splodge of de-graded black rubber, I logged a claim in August 2010 and I am still waiting for a satisfactory outcome, in November I invoked a complaints procedure & got a standard "we cannot guarantee an exact match" reply. Apart from very few occasions I have had to phone Guardsman for updates, they don't phone me.

It should be possible. We sell kits etc to protect. But to be honest you could call any Upholstery cleaner and they should be able to do it for you for a fair price.0 -
