    You could try to understand that the authorisation is valid for 6 months under Visa and Mastercard rules.

    My apologies that is not correct.

    For one thing the length of the authorisation is dictated by the bank not the type of card. A visa for Hsbc will have a different authorisation time than a visa for Barclays.

    At the end of the day this forum is about consumer rights, not consumer wants.

    It doesn!!!8217;t matter if it!!!8217;s bad customer service, it!!!8217;s legally allowable, therefore it doesn!!!8217;t matter if we think it would be nice of them to do it differently.

    As mije1983 says, you've just proved the Royal Mail analogy actually works. 99% of 1st class items arrive in 24 hours, but they can take up to 15 days to arrive, a very similar thing as the small amount of authorisations that process in the first day and might take significantly longer.

    Most payments are within a day or so, but they can take much longer without having failed, just like the post.

    As mije1983 says, you've just proved the Royal Mail analogy actually works. 99% of 1st class items arrive in 24 hours, but they can take up to 15 days to arrive, a very similar thing as the small amount of authorisations that process in the first day and might take significantly longer.

    Most payments are within a day or so, but they can take much longer without having failed, just like the post.

    It does not work at all. It is a very poor ill thought out analogy and you should just accept it and move on

    The OP has experienced money being taken out of his account one month after it was expected to be taken. This has caused him financial hardship (admittedly due to his own poor budgeting).

    A parcel arriving 15 days after it has been posted may be irritating but it doesn’t actually cause any financial hardship. In addition when you sign up for the Royal Mail service you will be told that it can take up to 15 days. I would be surprised if Asda tell you when paying for a shop that they may not charge you for six months.

    Surely that depend on what is in the parcel and what it is intended for?

    Not really as if you choose to use a service that can take up to 15 days then you have only yourself to blame if it takes 15 days to arrive. There are other Royal Mail services you can use which guarantee quicker delivery times.

    Tickets for a concert arriving two days after the event took place? An order to sell shares taking two weeks to get to the recipient and the price of the shares crashing in the two week period? A parcel of chilled fresh food? Legal documents for a house sale that doesn't make the exchange day etc?
