I've been waiting nearly 4 weeks now. Their checking is a bit more rigorous than others.
Had to call up once to clarify my salary (my net amount after pension deductions didnt match their calculator... ALMOST an instance of "computer says no" but after some pressing they manually overrode it). Just called again today because that was 2 weeks ago and I've not had any email, text, or anything in the post.
Kind lady in customer service said the wheels are in motion but they have a ridiculous volume of applications to get through and they are sorry for the wait.:think:June 2018 diary:
Debt: £13,169.83 (all on 0% CC til Sept 2018, repaying £500 a month)
Mortgage: £191,000 (on Repayment, 5-yr fix @ 2.39%)
Savings: £12,300 in various accounts @ between 1-5%, milking until August when will pay off CC0 -
Yeah that's pretty much identical to what's happened with me. Had to call to confirm details and then it's been another 2 weeks and heard nothing.0

I called to chase mine, the guy I spoke to said he cant cancel my application until its been put on the system etc, but if I didnt want it to call up after the application is on the system and they will remove the credit search.0

When we opened our account 2 years ago I think it took over 5 weeks from initial application to get it up and running. When they stopped paying the reward each month for using the account we decided to close our account. Another reason for closing was the online banking side is very fiddly!
That process has taken 5 months and 3 chase up telephone calls.
They even gave me a £50 credit on my M&S credit card for the fact that I had to chase it up twice.3.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds0 -
Same for me with lengthy delays and having to chase numerous times. I complained a couple of weeks ago, then when I got back from a weeks holiday on the 1 June, I had two letters waiting: One responding to my complaint saying they were going to give me £50 as compensation and a second letter dated 1 May (i.e one month before I actually received it), saying I needed to send a signed form back to them within 30 days to complete the opening of the account....0

What a faff that was. Got to be the most long winded application for a current account EVER!!!
I have no idea if I've entered all the right "financial" information, as I basically only want the account to get access to the Reg Saver, (I have an account I can switch to them shortly) so put what I thought was right e.g. "How much will you deposit annually into this account?" Well, how long is a piece of string....as I'm not having my salary paid in!!
It may only be £10, or it may be £12,000 if I decide to jump through their hoops for the bonus gift card payments!!!
If they reject me then, hey-ho, no skin of my nose....but would be nice to have that Reg Saver!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

My experience is any bank that uses HSBC systems is rather slow and clunky, but they get there in the end. My M&S Bank current account took about a week from putting in the application until I was notified I was accepted, but was rather quick after that. I got a series of letters in quick succession confirming the account was opened, then the debit card/PIN, and finally the authenticator about a week later. After putting in an application to switch to them, I got a letter confirming my switch would commence about 2 days AFTER it had actually started, but at least nothing actually went wrong. Now I'm just waiting to see when the gift card will arrive... sometime in the next few weeks hopefully

Much more positive than when I opened an Advance account with HSBC proper...0 -
I had to chuckle at their use of the phrase "new-fashioned" banking. It's hardly cutting edge! How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0
