Hello there AnnieG. I've just popped in and read your diary from start to finish. What a year!
You seem to have had a bit of a rollercoaster and out of it all a few patterns seem to have emerged. I wonder whether you are suffering a little from what I and a lot of other ladies have been through starting in our mid forties.... the dreaded peri-menopause!!!!!! Please bear with me in this while I explain my possibly bonkers rationale!
Mood swings from happy and positive to sad, finding it hard to make big decisions and then regretting them, berating yourself when you think you've made mistakes, having low feeling of worthlessness. When I was in my mid forties (I'm 52 now) I noticed that my spending got out of hand, I was drinking way too much (there's a brilliant book for this called "How to Control Alchohol"), making decisions I would not normally make, getting exhausted for no particular reason and my depression got a lot worse.
Once I started on the Marena coil and later HRT it all levelled out, I read that book and stopped drinking overnight (still don't drink) and increased my anti-depressants to a dose which helps me deal normally with life.
We ladies often underestimate the effect our hormones can have on us and 45 is a prime age for them to start mucking about!
On the job front you are doing well to be getting interviews and are being proactive which will stand you in good stead. I left teaching in April this year and spent 7 hours per day on my job search. It took me 2 months to get my 'real' job back in HR where I started my career and meanwhile I worked for a supermarket which was a financial lifesaver!
There is another epically good book Id like to recommend which addresses not only your job search but also identifies your real life quest. As you say you are unsettled it might suit you. Dont spend any mony on it as your library will have it.... it's called "What colour is your parachute" and its been updated every year for decades.
I really wish you the best of luck and agree with Beanielou .... keep plodding. Its the only way! With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

I was waiting for the crash and it arrived on Saturday morning. I woke up and started crying and spent the whole day sobbing. I cancelled my party and my friends have all been simply lovely to me. I managed to get through my first day at M and S without crying, the tears started to flow as soon as I got in the car to drive home.
Hopefuljoy thank you for your post, I'll reply properly when I'm up to it.
In the meantime I need to see my doctor for a prescription for my anti depressants and try not to fall into a spending frenzy. I hate being like this, I just wish I knew what would make me happy.
Sorry, I'm not in a good place right now.Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.0 -
