Cheapest Loft insulation?

Hi

Does anyone know where to get cheap loft insulation? as we want to DIY rather than go down the council grant route.

Have checked out the big DIY stores and wondered if anyone knows of a cheaper place.

Many thanks

I know that B&Q twice a year normally do a special offer on the loft insulation like vat free or something, might be worth asking there if they have this offer coming up as it is normally this time of year and then the spring

    Hi,
British Gas are currently doing this type of insulation which I believe is at the moment quite heavily subsidised (by the government) and seems good value for money.
B&Q have also teamed up with BG and again I think the insulation is subsidised for those wishing to install themselves.

FYI - the current building regs require that a minimum depth of 250mm of loft insulation is required.
That is to say, bring any current insulation up to that depth or install as new to the required depth.

    Hope this helps

Hello, Some places actually do schemes where you can get it either free or at a really cheap price, which area are you from?

I got mine put in free through an energy saving grant. It is available to most, it must be as I am not poor. Ask the local council or the energy saving website.
You must be mad to install it yourself

thanks for the tip. i just called my council (nottingham city) & a surveyor is going to come round & check how much insulation i've got. (this is free)

If i have up to 2 inches then it'll cost me £100 to upgrade.
    2-3 is £200
    4-6 is £225.

the guy i spoke to said it'll be cheaper than going through B&Q because they aren't subsidised, only contractors to the council are.
  • Hi,

I just so happen to know a supplier who sells Loft Insulation at half the price of places like B&Q.

He sells 100mm and 150mm thicknesses.

See this link on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4331462420&ssPageName=ADME:B:LC:UK:1

The rolls are brand new and have the best possible Thermal and Fire rating on the market.

This will defiantley save you a few quid! ;););)
