Not suggesting I know better than other people but there was a case a few years back where people were jailed for a similar thing (albeit on a much larger scale) with Cov building society. I remember the news from the time. People that refused to repay were prosecuted if they'd repeatedly withdrawn because after the first time their actions were deliberately intended to defraud:

Having said that, this kind of thing happens quite often and for a small amount they might not bother trying to get it back.

It's not your money. yet ;). But I hope it becomes yours in the end!

A person is guilty of theft if he DISHONESTLY, APPROPRIATES, PROPERTY, BELONGING TO ANOTHER, with the intention of PERMANENTLY DEPRIVING THEM OF IT.

    I'd arrest you.

I agree. However as you can't find me it will prove to be very difficult.

Maybe the maximum you could make out of this in 1 day would be £150.00 as most limits from an ATM is £300.00 a day, so you would have to ask the machine for 15 x £10 but it would pay you out 15 x £20 = £300
    Just a thought

haha thats what that guy was doing I guess when he kept putting his card back in.

I wouldn't have to. Every ATM is fitted with a built in camera, that photographs every customer. They know what customer from what address got out how much cash and when. They can trace what cartridge the money came from and what order it was dispensed.

Is it really worth risking a criminal record or a caution for £30?

    Give it back (sleep sound)

But wouldn't it be nice if ATM providers and shops and garages where PIN Hole cameras have been fitted to caputre peoples PINs informed consumers that their PINs may have been compromised?

Could be a case of if you're honest with us, we will be honest with you.

No they are not, A lot of cameras were ripped out because ot data protection issues and none of the ATM for the bank I work for have a camera for a 60 mile radius.

It will be too hard to trace etc, they wont know who did get correct, who didnt, who the accounts belong too etc

It would cost them far more cash and resources than they would recall

It is easy enough to trace. I service an ATM every day. The machine logs every transaction, and details of every card that is inserted into the machine. When we recieve a report of a fault we are informed. When we recieve notice that a customer is querying a transaction I go and physically get the 'ej log' which is then able to prove what card did what. It records which cassette dispensed notes. Each cassette is sealed with a barcode tracking number and cannot be interfered with without someone finding out about it. If we find random notes in the machine or stuck to a cassette when there has been a fault then we can 99 times out of 100 trace what happened.

Im really sorry but if they may well decide to chase you for the money. The only way it will be yours is if they decide not to bother with it.
